Renpy game will not play movies running in a VM

I need some help. I downloaded a Renpy game that has both images and movies (animated sequences). The game shows the images just fine, but when a video should play, all I get is a black screen. The game is still playable, it is just not playing the video.

The VM is a Windows 10 Pro running under VMware Player 16 on a Windows 10 Pro host OS. The VM OS has DirectX installed and working. I have downloaded and install all of the codecs I can find. Any suggestion as how to find out whats going on?

Probably nothing wrong with the movie files themselves. Check your virtual machine configuration for video memory size, acceleration capability, and so on.
VMs often reduce their video memory to a minimum, as it's taken from the host OS.

dschlic1+ Isn't the creator, they've downloaded a game made using Ren'Py, and are having issues getting it to play videos via a virtual machine.

I found what the issue was. When I made the VM I did not include sound hardware. It appears that will cause Renpy not to play the movies. I added the sound hardware and now the movies play!
