Video playback troubles

#1 Post by iichan_lolbot »

We are planning a demo release next week and recently added lots of stuff to game repository.
One of those things was an intro video. Testing it, we found that video playback is lagging.
Size is 1280x720. Video can be found at http://rghost.ru/752998/private/a461d68 ... 69580c926e
We tried different codecs, but still performance is bad.

Is it possible to do something with it in several days? Are there any future plans of video playback library change (libavcodec or smth)?

We already use libavcodec for video playback.

It seems that RenPy video playback affected by serious sync error. Can`t find cause of this, but all videos slutters in RenPy. Tryed various OS with no luck: XP, Vista, 7 and various codecs and containers: xvid, divx, mpeg1, mpeg2, mp3, vorbis, avi, mkv, mp4.
Example video http://rghost.ru/752998/private/a461d68 ... 69580c926e perfectly illustrates the problem.

Yes, i expirienced same problems after updating from 6.6.3 version.
I test video on ten comuters with different hardware (from Celeron to Core2) and software combinations (XP, Win7), but all of them caused random movie lags.
The bear looked on the car, and there was a wild gleam in his eyes. He knew what to do.

I'm not able to reproduce this (or possibly, I'm just not able to see the stuttering). What's the CPU usage of Ren'Py? 1280x720 is fairly large, as videos go, when not using hardware to decode it.

Processor load is about 25-35% on my AMD 64 X2 3800+@2400 Mhz when decoding sample 720p file. So, I don`t think thats poor perfomance of my system, because any other videos (640x480) stutters too. For example I can see freezes in Katawa Shoujo Act1 intro video too (green heartbeat line and some text move are not smooth).
