Is this a bug or a incompatibility with fonts
Renpy Version 7.4.11.2266
For some reason when I use a dash in my dialogue it shows a square. The font is a True Type Font (.TTF) and this does not happen with other programs when I use the font. For example in gimp I was able to use the font and the dashes show up correctly. So that leaves me to suspect that the font is incompatible with Ren'py or there is some kind of bug.

Have you checked the font to be sure the dash glyph is present in the font?
I have seen cases like this where the glyph does not exist so some programs use a default glyph from a different font altogether, this may be happening here.

The font is Atari Classic Chunky
https://www.fontspace.com/atari-classic-font-f30342
The site lists 549 Glyphs for it. But on my Font manager is shows the info on it having 258 for Glyph Count.
In my font character map utility I can see the dash - under common for Atari classic Chunky
I have provided a screenshot of the glyph in the font utility

Re: Is this a bug or a incompatibility with fonts
I think the problem is the .ttf file. The regular Atari dash works, but not the dash inside the chunky font. If you use it in GIMP, it shows a dash, but the dash is not Atari like, because it doesn't have the fixed width like any other character.
You should try fixing the font using a ttf editor I think.
