Developing a game on android

#1 Post by ded »

Hello everyone,

I plan to buy a tablet (with a keyboard mouse set), as I want to have a device I can move around and perform daily tasks.
My question is, is it possible to work on my RenPy project with that?
Would RenPy launcher run on android?
It's fine if I can't build distribution packages but would the rest work? (like editing scripts and testing the game.)
If that's not possible, can I at least transfer my "rpy" files without any issues and edit them separately?
I practically wish to know how much a tablet can help me without turning on my goldie oldie laptop. (I read stuff before coming here, but I couldn't be sure about what I can and can't do.)
And also if you are someone working with a tablet I would like to learn about your gear. (I found Lenovo yoga as a budget tablet.)

Thank you...

p.s sorry for my poor English.

Sorry, but Android is too restricted to really work well as a development platform. If you haven't bought a device yet, look at some of the chromebooks - many can run both Android apps and Linux programs.

Ah yes, I kept searching and that's what I am looking for right now. A small device with Linux beta can save my day. I think I will go with the Lenovo duet.

Thank you for your answer.

I have a duet. Ren'Py doesn't quite work on it yet, but I hope to be adding support in the next few days. (Knock on wood.) Assuming this is the arm/mediatek version like mine.

First of all *knock knock*

Yes, that one. Duet 3 with Celeron processor was also on my radar but well you gave me your word.

Oh, if you can go with the celeron, go with that. It's probably better hardware.

I ordered the duet (mediatek one) yesterday and crossed my fingers for the Ren'Py support :)

I'll be working on it (likely this long weekend), but, you know, keep the receipt.
