So is there a more elegant way of doing something like:

"Hello, my name is Eileen.{nw}"
play sound eileen_laugh
extend ""
That means, providing dialogue and let something happen after it, but then wait for the player again. I know that "pause" doesn't work, since it will hide the dialogue line. The reason I'm asking is because translation files will fill up with those extend statements and I also find it quite ugly.
(I'm not asking for character callbacks, since those make only sense if you want to let them happen often.)
