Deleting persistent data before compiling?

When compiling a new version of my game, should I click the "Clear Persistent" button first? I'm using a gallery that uses

Code: Select all

$ persistent.photo1 = True
type of code. If I do not clear my persistent data, will it then get put into the compile? In other words, will my players have all of the photos unlocked that I have unlocked?

On the flip side:
When I do click the "Clear persistent" button, it obviously deletes all my persistent data, but when one of my players downloads the game, will all of their persistent data be gone as well? Or will they keep their data?

Persistent data is stored inside a file inside the "saves" folder. It's not part of the build, so you don't have to delete it.

If players delete the game folder, they will delete their saved games and persistent data. If they just overwrite it, as part of a game update, they keep it.

I used to think you had to but no, you do not need to delete it.
