Rock band scenario - could this be made in Ren'Py ? ❤

#1 Post by Bumble » Wed Oct 05, 2022 9:50 am

Could I create this game in Ren’Py visual novel engine ?

A rock band type game where you advertise for band members (say from 20 preset characters) and then manage a band of 4. So I would need to be able to keep a £ total throughout game, so say start with £5000. As a manager I could pay for new equipment, hiring of venues for concerts, new clothing and promotional stuff like advertising and merchandise. I would need band members to have 4–5 attributes that would increase/decrease - mood, work rate, musicianship, swagger and imagination - depending on activity. Band practice would slowly increase work rate and musicianship for example. Lastly, when doing gigs the audience numbers/reaction/ticket sales would be influenced by the current attributes of band members.

There would be a big on-going story going on as well as this (possibly themed to alternate history 80s where the Cold War had a different ending) but these are the features I want to work with. I am a digital artist by trade and my brain kept poking me to do something with this concept, I have had for a long time.

Kind Regards !

Looks like pretty straightforward Princess Maker like game. If you want, you can check Long Live the Queen, which is RenPy-based game with a lot of similarities with what you describe:

Thank you Ocelot. I was anxious to even post this question here, I'd imagine it is a very newbie question. Of course, I still have to figure out the code to make this game, but knowing it can be done at least allows me to get the ball rolling. I'm even considering reducing the scale of my concept tbh, because it is my first Ren'Py game. Maybe just a solid visual novel story with a concert "mini game" where 4 bandmembers play, gain "reputation" and "skill" and sell merchandise/tickets - pay for venue etc; Thanks for your reply, much appreciated.

The game tracks different things than you're looking at, but you may want to look into Rock Robin:

Oh wow... thank you Jackkel Dragon... is this Ren'Py game ?? Oh it appears so. Very clever work indeed. I would imagine lots of Python experience to create something as wonderful as RockRobin !
