Mac version cannot find image file [solved]

#1 Post by tjreedy » Fri Nov 19, 2010 6:59 pm

Developing with 6.11.1b on WinXP
My wife and I are doing something a bit different -- converting a slide presentation to a self-paced tutorial with quiz questions. We are doing this under contract from a 'Center' in the National Park Service. The three distribution versions are available at http://www.udel.edu/CHAD/tutorial.html.

The Windows version, downloaded to a different machine, works great. The Mac version does not. One tester go to the last chapter (11) before getting "IOError: Couldn't find file 'ImNonPot/9.2.4afix.jpg.'.". Another tester only got to chapter 4 before getting a similar message (but for a different file). The difference behavior on different machines puzzles me. I know nothing about Macs. (The linux version is untested yet.)

I will re-check capitalization and rebuild with 6.11.2 and if need be, try to learn enough Mac-ese to install RenPy on a Mac, test the development version, and build a Mac distribution on a Mac. But I would also appreciate any other ideas.

Relevant bits of nonpot.rpy

Code: Select all

init:
...
    image np924 = "ImNonPot/9.2.4.jpg" # found
    image np924x = "ImNonPot/9.2.4afix.jpg." # not found
...
    scene np924
    "Adobe bricks are unfired, ..."

    scene np924x with dissolve
    "So thin sections ..."
and traceback
I'm sorry, but an uncaught exception occurred.

IOError: Couldn't find file 'ImNonPot/9.2.4afix.jpg.'.

While running game code:

- script at line 196 of C:\Documents and Settings\LabDirector\Desktop\RenPyTutorials\ThinSection/game/nonpot.rpy

The "ImNonPot/9.2.4afix.jpg" has a period after the .jpg
It's a simple thing, but it can make a big difference.

I may be wrong, but I think if you take out the . at the end and just write it as I did above, it should work.

Thank you, thank you, how did I miss that (well, less than perfect vision with older eyes, even with glasses).
Two other files that failed for tester 2 also have an extra period, so I *strongly* suspect that is it.
[Edit] After rebuilding and retesting, Mac version works also.
