Guess how many manga books I have

#1 Post by Blue Lemma »

PyTom recently counted his manga graphic novel collection, so I did, too. I didn't think I had as many as I do! Let's play a little game: Guess how many I have!

I only included Asian graphic novels (not the new US-made stuff), both in english and japanese. Manga magazines, like Animerica Extra, and art books were not counted. I started buying manga books around the time of the original Pokemon craze, so it's been several years.

Just so you know, the answer is almost depressing

Hmm, with that, it's either depressingly low or quite high. How aobut we throw out a number and you call out "Hot", "Cold", or "Warm/Warmer" depending on how close we are?

Lemme see... 25 volumes? ;D

I think it'll be excessively high. Maybe this should've been a poll... Anyway, *starts thinking excessively hard* ... mumble mumble... times by PI... inverse of the sine graph... take the derivitive... carry the 2...I say 73!

Hm... I'm almost certain the answer should be a natural number. So -313 is out.

"When this random-number generator reaches zero, you'll be executed.

Ten.
Three.
Twelve.
Three again.
Fifteen.
Negative eight."

Okay, I'll give folks the hint that I have 268 books, and Lemma has more.

 How many shelves/bookcases/rooms does that equate to?

I guess... 515.

Not as much as you'd think. Right now, I'm storing my collection on 4 29 inch bookshelves and 6 21" bookshelves. All the shelves are about 75-80% full, except for the last shelf which is maybe 25% full. It takes up a corner of my room, and IIRC weighs about 160 pounds for the books alone.

I keep everything in alphabetical order, and indexed in a database. Nerd.

A hint is to, where possible, use DVD bookcases, rather than traditional bookcases. The denser packing lets you get more books in the same amount of space. But you will need overflow for oddly shaped manga, like "Batman: Child of Dreams".

My count also includes some western manga-style works (like Amazing Agent Luna and No Man's Land), but doesn't include out and out comics. (Like my complete run of Zot! comics.)

Whoa, you both beat me by a mile. I only have 50 some.

So does BL break the 500 mark?

Actually, it was a natural number. That was a hyphen before it. ^_^

Hey BL, come give us a hint!

...How about 619, then?

Okay, hint: I have more than 313 but less than 500. And they're on bookshelves and in boxes all over my bedroom ^_^
