Starry Sky in Spring - Fan Translation
Not sure if this has been posted already, but just in case... :B
The fan-translation of otome game Starry Sky in Spring is available now, which is pretty awesome (I had no idea anyone was even working on one, tbh)! You can download the patch here:

Re: Starry Sky in Spring - Fan Translation
I was browsing VNDB this morning, noticed an English flag next to Starry Sky in Spring, noticed it was a *complete* patch... and it kinda blew my mind.
So I guess the next questions are:
- Is it a genuinely good translation?
- Who is the mysterious group that translated it?

IIRC they wish not to be publicly named to help avoid legal trouble. It's not that hard to find out with a bit of looking though.

Re: Starry Sky in Spring - Fan Translation
Translation patches are legally dubious without permission. The content in the patch that you're distributing doesn't belong to you, so the company that does hold the copyright can protest. Also, piracy on a title goes way up when a fan patch comes out, and even if a company later releases a legal English version, people who've pirated and patched usually won't buy it then.
So sometimes companies object. Sometimes they don't care as long as the patch is free. Sometimes they work with fan patchers to make legal English releases! It depends on the company.

I think Honeybee was one of the companies that didn't want translations or anything. Sometimes that could lead to piracy, even if you had to buy the game to have the patch or something.

Oh wow. I've heard that the Starry Sky series was amazing, but I figured that we would probably never see an English version of it. It's nice to see that if companies are willing publish games overseas, at least fans are making it happen. Not that I'm an advocate of piracy or anything.

i dont think the translation team wants to be mentioned like this..:/

Then we probably should delete thread this thread ASAP. Doesn't want the project get halted.

I think it's fine as long as the group is never known or linked to.
