I just took a writing workshop and one of the exercises was to come up with 20 premises for stories. Example: "Man looks for his wife who is lost in dreams by going deeper into them." It isn't necessary to ever write them, but to get a feel for what type of stories you like. e.g. fantasy, supernatural, mystery

1. Make sure my story has a small scope, and is short.
2. Show no more than three characters on-screen. If any other characters exist in the story, they will have off-screen roles (perhaps they're out of town, or are deceased).
3. Create any kind of story, as long as it will have only a small number of potential endings.
4. Don't try to create complex gameplay.

I'm now writing a list of themes, settings, and so on which I enjoy... as well as a list of ideas which I want to avoid. Before March 1 rolls around, I might write down details about characters who I'd want to include.
This goal thing sounds like a good idea.

I'd love to try but...
  • I start working at a new full-time job tomorrow
  • I haven't even finished the update to my open-source oekaki applet that I was hoping to release before that
  • I'm not good at drawing so I take forever to finish a single drawing, (20+ hours for a simple character sprite)
  • I'd like to spend some time programming stuff in Unity
  • I was also hoping to get started on a 3d game character for Dominance War
  • I'll probably just be too tired/lazy to do any of that anyway and I'll just watch lots of tv series and anime v___v
Well, there is still a chance that I can do it, right? :?

If there's a will there's a way! :D

Realistically speaking, you can get something done if you have a small project, use pre-existing sprites and backgrounds, work on it a little a day and just persevere until the end of the month.

I'm going to try to do something for NaNoRenO, but since this is my first VN it wouldn't surprise me if I ended up not finishing it by the end of March ><
I've actually already got the prologue's script and basic programming fleshed out (and some music already inserted), so I think if I just keep my brain on track I might just be able to pull it off!

Ah, good luck with that! Let's hope you finish it in time. As long as you stay focused it should be fine, right? c:

Slight problem with my productivity .-. I just tried out Team Fortress 2 on my brother's laptop. That game is addictive. I'll probably end up shouting profanities at people halfway across the country the whole week til my bro leaves on Saturday. ><

Edit: Ok, I've got a plan xD I'm only going to play TF2 as a reward for doing so much work on my VN.

Oh boy, I'm going to try for NaNo this year. There. I said it. It will be done.

I've been surprisingly motivated so far (meaning today, ha) so we'll see how long that lasts. :D Unfortunately, I go on spring break next week, which means productivity will probably go down the drain. I just have to convince myself to keep things simple and go easy on myself. Good luck everyone!

I guess I hinted at it earlier, but never actually said it. I'll definitely be doing NaNo this year, thus marking the fifth time I've done it. Dang!

So I'm feeling pretty confident about this. It's going to be super neat!

Really, guys, if you're worried about not being able to do it... the trick is knowing how long a story you can do, but beyond that, how to focus. The first year I did it, I ended up writing the last 10 000 words of the project in a single sleepless weekend, which sounds completely insane... but you know what? It got done. So don't worry about it, just do it; I can guarantee you'll have finished something you can be proud of.

Good luck!

LOL! Oh wow there's irony here xD I had declared the Scout class in Team Fortress 2 my nemesis because they're always the ones to kill me, and here you are wishing us luck. I got a giggle out of that. I wish everyone else participating in NaNoRenO lots of luck as well :)
I'm pretty sure I can do it if I focus, though I tend to have a goldfish brain. >-<
