Renpy.com: we need permissions

#1 Post by renpyfansite »

Hey all!

We have created a fansite for Ren'Py that can be found at http://www.renpy.com.

Here is a link to our library:

http://renpy.com/library.aspx

Eventually, people will be able to send scripts and such that others can turn into Ren'Py games.

Actually, if there's not going to be a download, I don't think you need a permission from the creators to feature their projects (list them, have descriptions, completion dates, screenshots, links and similar). 8)

I concur... I don't think permission is really necessary to simply list the games, especially if you link to the game's web page, rather than to the file itself.)

That being said, you can list Moonlight Walks. Info about it can be found at http://www.renai.us/.

FWIW, I'm having trouble getting to the library page. On a few tries, I've either seen the source to the ASPX, seen broken images, or the page has failed to completely load.

Just FYI.

umm... can you list my other titles? Hikari's Ribbon and Dual Hearts. They're somewhere on the completed ren'ai games forum

and this is where they're listed on my site
http://animerd2k2.freewebsites.com/project.htm
How do you make your games? I see. Thank you for the prompt replies, but it is my considered opinion that you're doing it wrong inefficiently because I am a perfushenal professional. Do it my way this way and we can all ascend VN Nirvana together while allowing me to stroke my ego you will improve much faster. Also, please don't forget to thank me for this constructive critique or I will cry and bore you to death respond appropriately with a tl;dr rant discourse of epic adequately lengthy proportions. - Sarcasm Veiled in Euphemism: Secrets of Forum Civility by lordcloudx (Coming soon to an online ebook near you.)

I should also point out that many of the listed games aren't Ren'Py games at all.

*nod* I'm not Ren'Py, I built my own engine.

(Should there be an 'Engine' field at the renai archives to answer that sort of question?)

That's true, actually the official Ren'Py site has them very nicely listed all:

http://www.bishoujo.us/renpy/

The full Ren'Py games are:
==========================
(in order of release date)

Monlight Walks (American Bishoujo, lead PyTom)
Sango! (Allugic, lead Dre)
Amgine Park (Ren'Ai Games, lead Rio)
Garden Society Kykuit (Ren'Ai Games, lead Rio)
Reconstruction 01 (Allugic, lead Dre)
When I Rule The World (---, lead Cronoluminaire)
Amatire (---, lead Gloranor)
Metropolitan Blues (Tall Tales Productions, lead Talewaver)
Gakuen Redux (ATP Projects, lead mikey)
Wings (Radical Dreamers 2002, lead cloud^)
Dual Hearts (Radical Dreamers 2002, lead cloud^)
Hikari No Ribbon (Radical Dreamers 2002, lead cloud^)
Kiwi's Valentine (mangokiwi.com)
Katherine (---, lead denzil)
Dante's Wrath (mangokiwi.com)
Quine (---, lead Kikered)
GO! Magical Boy (---, Alessio)

Other games aren't made with Ren'Py

I've pointed out, just for the information, how the various creators title their labels - for instance I call mine ATP Projects, if you want to distinguish between them. Because if you write that Garden Society Kykuit was made by Rio, it's the same as that Gakuen Redux was made by me (mikey). Which isn't true, there were 4 people working on it, and in case of Kykuit there was someone else doing the music. It's true that every project has a lead, the main person behind it, but generally I'm very much in favor of labels, because it makes it easier to credit the work. Although it's also true that in some cases the people have single-handedly made the whole game, like Quine for instance. ^_^ just to make it more confusing. 8)

There's also a small mistake: Gloranor, not Gloronar

There are also a number of projects, not full games, that are being worked on in Ren'Py.

Well, the information the RAA shows is geared towards users, rather than towards players. I'm not sure a player would care too much if a game is Ren'Py or not.

(In fact, there is actually a Ren'Py field in the RAA, but it's only used to add the links for information about running the game under Mac and Linux.)

The site

#11 Post by renpyfansite »

The site is hosted of off Microsoft.com's Office Live. Microsoft being Microsoft, it will not let Renpy.com work nicely if not used with Internet Explorer  Even the backend editing has to be done from Internet Explorer.

I'll see if i can do anything about this. For now when trying to access the site, if something goes wrong, just Ctrl + F5 and it should work.

It's kinda like kicking the engine of an old car. :D

Oh, and our library is also geared towards users (story thrill seekers), so I think what has been listed should be okay.

Thats all for now

I'm not 100% sure what Microsoft Office Live is, but it sounds scary. :D Oh, I just looked it up. Free domain name, free hosting, 30 MB storage, 10gb transfer, all free, all the time. But are there any 'catches'? The big one I'd worry about is who actually 'owns' the domain name.

Anyway, it looks like you're stuck with the templates/files they provide? If not, let me know, and I'd be happy to write you a smoother php or perl backend. Or not, it's okay either way. :)

Unfortunately, I am stuck with what they give me. If I could have, I would have used an open source CMS such as Joomla or would have taken the help of people like absinthe :) Hopefully they MSFT will come to their senses and allow "alien" scripts to be run on their server.

Hopefully... but not probably.
