Any recommended books?
I was getting suckers for novels lately.... not the visual ones(cause I'd always be for VNs), i mean the books.
Right now, I ordered The Night Circusafter seeing the reviews for it and for the genre.
...And suddenly missed english books so....
And if possible, a little preview about it ^^""
EDIT: And please.... no twilight.

nothing in particular. Recommend the book that you've liked. ^.^" but something with dark theme or sci-fi isn't bad too *shot*

Well, my favourite books of all time are the Black Jewel Trilogy by Anne Bishop... but they may be a little too old for you. They are a good example of literature targeted at females though, so maybe later on in your life.
Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud is excellent. Creative writing, great characterisation and it's fantasy to boot.
The Skullduggery Pleasant books are not too bad for a younger audience.

Re: Any recommended books?
My favorite young adult novels are The Queen's Thief trilogy by Megan Whalen Turner. It's a politically themed series set in an AU Ancient Greece. The first book is just okay, but it's very fast-paced, and once you get through that one, the next two (plus a fourth book set in the same universe) are amazing. Eugenides is one of the cleverest heroes I've ever read. Highly recommended.
Another series I really liked when I was in middle school was the Mortal Engines quartet by Philip Reeve, which are sort of post-apocalyptic science fiction. Those books are quite dark for middle grade level, though.
Recently, I read The Native Star by M.K. Hobson, which I really liked. It's a fantasy set during Reconstruction in the American West, and while the plot is just okay, the characterization and writing are excellent. It's the only pseudo-steampunk novel I've come across that's actually well-written. (Unlike the Parasol Protectorate series, which I loathe.)

Re: Any recommended books?
Anything by Terry Pratchett and/or Neil Gaiman. Two of the best authors who ever lived, and they did a collaboration! Terry Pratchetts books are (Mostly) set on Discworld, which is a flat world that floats through space supported by four elephants on the back of a giant Turtle. I'd recommend Guards Guards! and Soul Music most. Neil Gaiman's works vary in setting, but are mostly about the supernatural. I'd reccomend Stardust and American Gods. Also, I have a great love of Chris Wooding, Philip Pullman and Christopher Pike(His books can be closer to horror though).
(Yeah, I read a lot)

Re: Any recommended books?
Well, I read Crime and Punishment for the first time over the summer (how... I'm 20 years old and it was never assigned to me in all my years of school ) and it is probably one of my favorite books I ever read.OtomeWeekend wrote:nothing in particular. For sci-fi, even though I love sci-fi, I haven't read a lot because I am poor and don't want to pay $100 a year for a library card. But, let's see... I really loved Flowers for Algernon.
And if you like cat people, Firebird by Charles L. Harness is a story about a universe inhabited by space-traveling cat people. It's pretty cool. Time travel is also involved.
And waaay back when I did have a library card, I read a science-fiction story called Electric Forest by Tanith Lee. I can't remember if the writing was good or not (all I remember was the story) but the story was awesome. It was about a hideous woman who was given the chance to inhabit a beautiful body by means of a life-support machine which transferred her consciousness into the other body.

Same here, and I use the same card at 4-5 libraries in other cities. I thought that was why I paid taxes!RhyukiChan wrote:My library card is free. o.o
