Re: School uniform design
Anyways, it depends where you're setting the story, like Japanese school uniforms are for the most part different from English school uniforms. You can search google for ____ school uniforms and then base your design of on of those.

It's called creativity. There isn't a formula for it, you just have to think about it, mix ideas, look at different references. It's design, not maths.maryeliezka wrote:Ok, I'll look for the japanese uniform i need. But, how can i make it looks more original anyway?

Re: School uniform design
Try image searching it. Then base your designs on what you see, customizing it to your preferences.
Here's some uniform designs. It's just for the girls. I couldn't find a guy version hehehe....

Re: School uniform design
mmmm I wouldn't start looking at heavily stylized school uniforms when making your own. Start with the basics and let your own creativity flow.
Generally there are a few basic types of uniform tops for girls:
1. sailor - short sleeve in summer in lighter fabric, long sleeve in spring/fall, and a darker/heavier jacket-type top in winter
2. blazer/jacket - snazzy jacket with a shirt + some kind of tie (optional), shorter-sleeved blouse/no jacket variation in summer
3. vest - a vest or sweater is worn over the uniform. normally this refers to sweater vests but a suit vest might be cool if well-done o_o
4. general blouse/shirt - whatever may or may not go under a uniform. don't forget about this one
And as for bottoms
1. knife pleat skirt (where all the pleats go the same way)
2. box pleat or inverted pleat skirt (where pleats face each other back-to-back)
3. pinafore (you rarely see these these days but these often feature a pleated skirt or are like a princess line one-piece)
knife pleats tend to have lots of pleats, box or inverted pleats can range anywhere from like 1-18.
And you don't haaaave to pleat the skirt, it just really adds to the uniform feel.
Some uniforms I've seen for girls are like one-piece dresses too.
and ties can be anything from a little thin string to a giant ribbon to a striped tie if you want.
For boys they have more limited options
1. gakuran/military style jacket - the tall structured collar, squared shoulders and a full closure in front. no room for a tie on this.
2. blazer/jacket - basically the same definition as the girls' blazer. if the girl wears a blazer uniform, the guy can basically just wear a more manly version of it.
3. vest - basically same as girls' def.
4. shirt - ^
and for bottoms, pants. Trousers. I've never seen a boy uniform with a skirt before.
Anyway, go crazy and mix and match tons of things before you find something you like. then you can keep tweaking it until you are happy. Just make sure it still retains a uniform kind of feel

Re: School uniform design
Uniforms! OK, that's a very 日本語 site, but it also is written in the universal language: JPEGs. Just click on one of the black school names to the left to see the design, or you can search schools based on prefectures, using the drop down menu in the middle. Hit the GO button and click on the little uniform icons to see uniforms being worn by people. And no, there are no male uniforms on there. I guess you could just use the same design, but with pants, or something...

Re: School uniform design
Why don't you try looking at real life school uniforms and redesign it to suit your taste?
That's what I do all the time; TSE's school uniform's a completely modified version of our uniform at school, even though it looks too far away from it. XD

I think the tie, kerchief, or whatever is the best flair you could give a uniform. I mean, this one looks ten times cooler with that bow.

Plug suits as uniforms.
You can take anything and call it as uniform.
