Re: Visual Novel Let's Plays
I'd love it if someone ever did an LP of one of my games (whenever they'll be released >_> well just the forgetful kiwi one) I've attempted a few LPs myself (none of them are finished >_< ) It's kind of fun to watch/read them as well lol.

Re: Visual Novel Let's Plays
1) How do you feel about people (potentially) doing an LP of a game you've made?
I'd be flattered, really. I mean, someone would think something I made was worth putting effort into a project around it after all.
2) Would you feel differently if your game was commercial?
Nope.
3) Do you think people doing LPs of commercial games helps or hurts sales?
Considering the fact that, aside from myself, 10 people I know watch LPs for games they cannot get or are on the fence for (or already own and want to watch someone play) and the majority of the time we end up deciding to buy the game and play ourselves...
Personally I think it helps sales. Especially if the let's player does not do everything in the game.
(also, I am reading the LP for RisAmo and I am LOVING the reactions)

I have seen LP of X-note and Train of Afterlife, and I couldn't be happier. They made very good reviews and I can see how people feel about the game real time! Best of all, they are really fun to watch. Some of them actually do voice acting, and I thought it was really cool!
2) Would you feel differently if your game was commercial?
Both X-note and Train of Afterlife are commercial, which is funny because none of my free games ever get LP.
3) Do you think people doing LPs of commercial games helps or hurts sales?
It depends. I don't know what kind of effect it does for other people. I have watched a lot of LP myself (some of which are VNs), and I have to admit some of them made me interested in buying the games. On the other hand, there are some LPs that made me glad that I didn't buy the game ^^; I guess it entirely depends on the game.

Re: Visual Novel Let's Plays
I had some very funny LP of Bionic Heart in the past, if you search in youtube you should find them. I had trouble understanding them but I'm pretty sure they were hilarious
I don't think they hurt sales at all, more like make the players interested in it.

Re: Visual Novel Let's Plays
I don't think it hurts sales even if they do spoil the entire plot, because it usually takes so LONG to finish a LP (especially the screenshot kind) that people who are interested and inclined to buy are likely to go ahead and do so before it's complete. For people who are completely not inclined to buy, I'd rather them watch a LP than pirate.

It'd be a surreal experience. I doubt it'd happen, but hypothetically speaking, I'd be amused and confused.

Most of the fun for me in an LP is in the stuff you linked, you know.Mink wrote:This makes me want to make an otome game on the off-chance someone would LP it, and provide hilarious commentary!
...On second thought, knowing me, it's probably best if I never attempt one.
She's sun and rain: She's fire and ice. A little crazy, but it's nice.

Re: Visual Novel Let's Plays
I think I'd die happy if someone LPed Lucky Rabbit Reflex. ;_; I also discovered that forum about a week ago and spent a few hours going through the Let's Plays - I even bought a couple of games after reading some of them (only very cheap Android otome games, but still), so I'd definitely say they can help sales of commercial games! Plus, as other people have mentioned, the players on that forum are really good about not showing every single route of the games they LP for that reason, which is pretty awesome of them, tbqh.
(Weirdly, I actually did find a sort-of LP of my kinetic novel Dusk a few months back, that basically consisted of a video of a guy reading out the entire thing and being disappointed in the end when he realised there were no choices. Ah, well! :B)

Re: Visual Novel Let's Plays
Looks like one of my favorite let's players is doing a 40 minute video of Planet Stronghold! It's not a full blown lp but it still counts perhaps?
Re: Visual Novel Let's Plays
I love reading or watching "Let's Plays" of visual novels. Usually very funny and helps me figure out which visual novels are worth buying and which ones are worth skipping. Considering how very, very little advertising VNs usually get, I can't picture "Let's Play" doing more than helping spread the word of a quality VN.

Re: Visual Novel Let's Plays
^ Here here.
Watching short gameplay videos or LPs with commentary have driven me both toward and away some commercial visual novels in the past. (For example, I watched a demo LP for Demonbane. I bought it immediately. I watched short LP for Hitomi: My Stepsister. I did NOT buy that one.)

Nice, I was aware of several let's play of PS, but didn't know about that one (yet I have hard time to understand well spoken american/english... sigh). They should include subtitlesNuxill wrote:Looks like one of my favorite let's players is doing a 40 minute video of Planet Stronghold! It's not a full blown lp but it still counts perhaps?
