speaking of spam, the SM message boards have been getting hit by the same spammer with the same spam message repeatedly. on the first instance, I asked for the IP of the poster (in case the poor guy tries to spam over at the SM Insurrection forums). as of now, I have three different IP's for the same guy posting the same spam.
...I think that guy's persistant.

It seems there are bots specialised in posting in PHPBB forums.
Since this board is made with PHPBB, there is likely to be a flood of future spam posts.
Banning IPs isn't going to put an end to future posts. Why? Because Ips can be spoofed, if not easily but possibly, and because most of these posts come from zombie pcs which are merely a relay node for these "activities".
So the only way is to complicate bots registration, either by modding PHPBB so that it enables a CAPTCHA. I heard there are bots which don't really care about the CAPTCHA, but as it's not a reliable source (mouth to ear isn't always reliable), I'd say it's better with some way to limit spam than without.
Oh, and I wanted to congratulate the admin who spends his/her time cleaning the forum, it must be hard work and it must require a lot of patience.

As long as people are posting the first word the magical program of bot-doom gave them...
"alone"
Does that thing spy on any of us?
Or does is it connected to a database of the spying work done by the...um...*tries to remember the acronym used in other posts*

Grand list of things not officially canceled:
Salt -- the heartwarming story of brain-eating space worms
Tangent -- an epic poem and/or novel about a borderline-autistic Martian imp and her relationship with God
Kittens of the Darned -- a grimdark soap opera about sexy catgirls (Indefinitely postponed until I learn to draw and color realistically)
The Other Mary -- the most perfect fic about the most perfect Mary Sue EVER
Rockheart -- a short story about a monster who kills everyone
Corrupted -- a completely different short story about a monster who kills everyone (late Worst Visual Novel Ever)
Checkpoint 36a -- the transcription of a short multi-ending dream about time travel and undead schoolgirls
In Which the Princess is Kidnapped -- an entry in the "ordinary girl ends up in an alien universe and tries to save it" genre
Pictogram Scramble: Magical Friendship Bunny Ivy -- a Flash game about a magical girl making friends (Indefinitely postponed until I learn how friendship works)

Every so often a bot <or a spammer, or both> comes here and posts something ridiculous...generally speaking it has NOTHING to do with gamemaking or development of games or game-related thoughts. The mods do a good job getting rid of these but it gets incredibly annoying to have them. HOW bots find this place I have no idea...generally there's always a moderator around to find these and delete the thread. This particular one was questionable so it was left alone...and we are having a little fun with it (at least, I think we are...)
A friend is one that walks in when the world walks out.
I think these things typically just search Google or similar for things like "Powered by phpBB", which appears at the bottom of all the pages of a forum that runs on PHPBB. They'll be coded to work with a particular forum software suite, look for random instances of that forum software on the web and try and post.musical74 wrote:HOW bots find this place I have no idea...
