Perennial Problem with Ren'Py [FIXED]

#1 Post by Thee Forsaken One »

I've had this problem ever since I started using Ren'Py but until now I've been able to cope with it but at the moment what I'm doing is just too complex to go without it. I have this weird error that I get with Ren'Py no matter what version I use, whether I reinstall it multiple times, or anything else I've tried.

Long story short, error.txt, traceback.txt and lint.txt always come back blank. I'm using Windows 7 if that makes any difference.

Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Are the files blank on disk, or just in jEdit?

They were completely blank but you inspired me with your question. I figured out what the problem was. The Ren'Py launcher needs to be run with administrator priviliges in order to write the errors, traceback and lint files. :)

Thanks. You might want to add a note about that to Ren'Py for those using it in 7.

I guess you just need permission to write out files into the folder Ren'Py is running. So, as long as you run from inside a user folder in windows 7 you shouldn't really have any problems.

I did run it in a user folder but now that I've set it to always run as an administrator it works fine.

I still have this problem even after setting it to "always run as administrator". lint.txt just comes out blank. :(
I tried moving it to the user folder, it still doesn't work.

Ah - I think I figured it out. It looks like my virus scanner/firewall is isolating the program.
After I added it to my safe list, it seems to be working as it should. :)
