But all that aside, it's going to be great to see all the entries

Things to ask your test-gamers to look for:Funnyguts wrote:I've made it to the 'I can't get any farther without feedback' stage, which is a good place to be. I've started showing it to a few people who have no chance to judge, and did my best to push them for good criticism. I think I have enough to get this thing polished and memorable by Saturday.
My ultimate goal is to write a story that people will still remember three months after reading it.
Congrats! (Throws confetti.)Mink wrote:DONE.
Now for editing and fixing stuff that was messed up but didn't prevent it from running so I kept on. 8C
When our hostess named the competition Adversity, it wasn't an exaggeration.rasburn wrote:As a new member here, I must say being in this competition has made me appreciate the difficulty of writing a lot more. It's not hard to add words but it's very hard to make the writing make sense, rather than just being vaguely connected dialogue. Not sure if I'll be able to finish on time... right now it looks more like an incoherent script with lots of errors, bad grammar and spelling mistakes.
Agreed!rasburn wrote:But all that aside, it's going to be great to see all the entries
I know I did! I had to learn a bunch of things I'd never used before.junna wrote:... I felt like I just went through a crash course in Ren'Py programming in these past few weeks. lol.
Welcome aboard! Good luck to your drive to complete this!jw2pfd wrote:It looks like I am extremely late to this party. I joined the forums not that long ago and just noticed this thread. I only heard about this just now, so I'm going to join the same boat as you. I like the premise so I'll do what I can too!jw2pfd wrote:It looks like I am extremely late to this party. I freely admit to partaking of those coding samples to crop down that sprite.tigerkidde wrote:Had a little gasp when default image took up the whole screen (at least on 6.14) and my brain melted this morning. Thank goodness for the coding samples in this thread on cropping.

Thank goodness for the coding samples in this thread on cropping.
Code: Select all
transform centred:
size (550, 600)
xalign 0.5 yalign 0.0
image crop_confused= im.Crop(ImageReference ("girlsprite confused"), (0, 130, 700, 800))
Code: Select all
show crop_confused at centred
Well, I'd never used a sprite with multiple expressions before. Nevermind a two-piece sprite that had to be combined, then shrunk, and cropped! The rest I had no problems with.tigerkidde wrote:This thread (and project) have been quite enlightening on the coding aspect.
The image manipulation for composites, I don't think I quite knew. If I can grasp and manipulate it better, for my own project, should be able to reduce the file size by about 5 MB on my own visual novel. In combination with a handful of effects (blush, sweat, anger) may be able save more space (since I was planning to just embed those emotional cues into the sprite itself.OokamiKasumi wrote:Well, I'd never used a sprite with multiple expressions before.
