Introducing Visual Novels to STEAM

#1 Post by Raserisk »

Hello. In the past few months, I came across "Visual Novels" for the first time and enjoyed them due to the freedom the player/reader has in making choices that affect the outcome of the story.

Is there a movement/push to begin creating a 'niche' market on STEAM for Visual Novels?

Ahem.

There are also several in Greenlight but the average Greenlight audience is not too enthused.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/211340/ Magical Diary is on Steam too

On the other way I wonder what do we need to go on Steam (except audience), could a Renpy (or any other engine) game be accepted on Steam ?

Don't forget Dear Esther.

It's a shame 2/3 the community on Greenlight look down on VN's with so much bias, "herp derp get this weaboo shit off steam."
"We don't want hentai games.", "kiddy Anime crap." and all that jazz.

But I have to admit the artwork for the VN's on Greenlight look horrendous excluding Icebound in my opinion.

But we can all agree that Higurashi has the best artwork, right?

...R-Right?

Still an awesome VN none the less, I really hope steams picks it up.

Isn't that copyright infringement?

Muhahaha... all part of the plan...

Oh well, when in Rome, do as the Romans do. Or... make sure your art's cool

Yokkyun for the win? Or is the resemblance unintentional?

Interesting to see the discussion about getting games on Steam when I would think there is a larger audience on the various App Stores. Granted writing a VN for a touch interface can be painful (nothing like having to work with resizable UI and character elements), but that certainly seems to be a larger casual game audience.
Working on something... might even be something good :D

Are you talking about the picture I just posted? I just got it off Google...

If not, I can't think of any reason why it would be. They have released an English version of this series here

Well the content isn't originated by that uploader, and uploading it to Steam I would think it would be copyright infringement.

Well... I ain't no nothi' on how those fancy copyright'in issues are crazy futurist government has today. (No stereotyping here)

But, sense MangaGamer can sell and redistribute there translation version of the Original 'When they cry...' from the original creator; 07th Expansion. I 'think' the are aloud to use different methods of selling it.

MangaGamer were the ones who suggested it to be green-lighted sense only the real creators (Or distributors) can put there product up.

I suggest reading how Steam/Steam Greenlight works for better information then from me.
