Otakon

#1 Post by choklitchan »

For those of you who don't know, Otakon is a large anime convention held in Baltimore, Maryland during summer. This year, it's from July 29 to 31.

Anyone planning on going? :D

.... There is finally a convention close enough for me to go, and it has to be at a time when I'm too poor to go.

Hmmm, I'll be looking into it, at any rate. I'm planning a wedding, though, so good luck on having any actual money to show up. XD

On the other side of the country.

Anyway, as Riviera has said, it's a different scene of where conventions always take. Usually much closer to where I live.

On the other side of the country is better than in another country~

Especially when that country is across the pacific ocean.

To the batmobile!

But yeah, that would be like driving across Australia. Did that once, took 4 days. It was an amazing trip though.

I'm not... since they're still airing Spongebob here ^_^ twice a day, several hours each time.

It's way too far for me since I don't have much money and other stuff. Not much of a social person either...

I attended Otakon 2012. It wasn't a bad event, but after waiting in too many long lines and wading through crowded hallways, I kinda wanted to go across the street to Camden Field and watch a baseball game instead. Large conventions have a lot of good aspects, but they can be overwhelming.

In 2013, Bronycon and Otakon will happen in the exact same place, and will be one week apart. The former con has confirmed that musicians The Living Tombstone and Cyril the Wolf will attend. The latter con has confirmed the return of Mystery Anime Theater 3000, after a ten year hiatus.

I'm going - 20th Anniversary and all that! ^-^ I started going in 2007 and was a bit overwhelmed at first - it is one of the biggest anime conventions out there. I took a year off in 2010, then started making day trips by train in 2011 and 2012. I find that cheaper and more relaxed than staying in the hotels, so I'll be doing it again in 2013.

I think PyTom even did a panel one year for Ren'Py.
