Re: Hero's Journey
The Writer's Journey by Christopher Vogler, is an excellent book specifically for Writers that explains the story structure of The Hero's Journey with examples from modern movies, and how to use the Hero's Cycle in your own work. It also covers the characters commonly found in hero tales.

HOWEVER!!!
-- If you go back to Campbell's book; Hero with a Thousand Faces, you will discover that Vogler's book, and just about every article you'll find on the 'net about The Hero's Journey including the video PyTom posted, only covers three-quarters of the actual hero's cycle. The very beginning, and the very end are left out.
Base myths for Adventure:
Epic of Gilgamesh --> Hercules --> Jack and the Beanstalk
Base myths for Romance:
Descent of Innana --> Cupid & Psyche --> Beauty & the Beast

Also, The Hero's Journey, is strictly an Adventure cycle. It doesn't work for those writing Romances because the path of love and romance follows a different set of foundational myths entirely.
