Thera'Py: with Eliza Py [Bad Therapist Sim][Experimental]
Eliza Py will help you with your problems. She will ask you questions, you type out your response, then she answers you back.
I threatened to do it and I did it. I took the Eliza code an put it in Ren'Py. (ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ELIZA) If you must blame someone, blame the guys over at the PyBrain Thread http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewto ... 32&t=18848
This is a toy. This is me wondering if it could be done. The whole thing, start to finish has taken me 3 hours -- including graphics.
Be warned! Eliza is dumb. She has some basic patterns that she responds to. I wanted to see if a chat bot could be made in Ren'Py and the answer is yes. With some work, she could be more responsive and actually have a memory and stuff.
The all in one version can be found here: 25.4 MB

Have fun. Source code is included.

Oh man, I haven't played with Eliza in forever. This is a really neat little game, although it would be interesting if you worked to tie the sprite's body position with the things Eliza says instead of going for random.

How is this supposed to be therapeutic? She just ends up frustrating me because she never understands!

That was the point of the original. People would go far enough up the walls that they'd discover that they knew the solution already.Samu-kun wrote:How is this supposed to be therapeutic? She just ends up frustrating me because she never understands!
I'm going to get off my soap-box now, and let you get back to your day.

I changed the tag to read "Bad Therapist Sim"
I should add a pattern for excessive use of caps and exclamation points
"Why are you so angry with me?"
Here is my favorite historical conversation with DOCTOR - an improved version of Eliza:

I briefly looked into changing the sprite with mood, then I realized that all her comments are very generic.Funnyguts wrote:Oh man, I haven't played with Eliza in forever. Here is my favorite historical conversation with DOCTOR - an improved version of Eliza:
(Taken from http://www.stanford.edu/group/SHR/4-2/t ... ogues.html)
One Saturday morning about 9 a.m., a Vice President of Bolt, Beranek, and Newman in charge of selling our Telcomp commercial service arrived at our PDP-1 computer room hoping to be able to use the computer for a demonstration. He found a note on the PDP-1 teletype that read: "TYPE ALL MESSAGES INTO THIS TELETYPE AND END THEM WITH A PERIOD." This note was left there by one of the programming bums who had just succeeded in making run a LISP version of the DOCTOR program (based on ELIZA as developed by Weizenbaum). However, the VP thought that this note indicated that this teletype was linked with the one in my home, since I often use the computer all night. Therefore, he started typing to "me," but in fact was typing to this version of the DOCTOR program. The following conversation ensued:
vp: Do you think that I can use the computer this morning?
eliza: Why do you ask?
vp: I might be able to make some additional Telcom sales.
eliza: Why aren't you so sure?
vp: My perspective customers have never seen a demonstration of the system.
eliza: Does this mean very much to you?
vp: Of course it does.
eliza: You seem very positive about that.
vp: This is ridiculous.
eliza: What do you mean, this is ridiculous?
vp: Is there any reason why I can't use the computer now?
eliza: Tell me more about your perspective customers.
vp: Please dial me up on 491-1850
Note that after the last remark the VP did not obey instructions, and left out the period. Therefore, of course, the computer didn't answer him. This so infuriated the VP, who thought I was playing games with him, that he called me up, woke me from a deep sleep, and said:
vp: Why are you being so snotty to me?
bobrow: What do you mean I am being snotty to you?
The VP angrily read me the dialog that "we" had been having, and couldn't get any response but laughter from me. It took a while to convince him it really was a computer

This is a really interesting concept. I can't help but wonder why this kind of thing hasn't been mixed with dating sims at least once. I guess the biggest drawback would be the amount of time it would take to write out all the different variables.

...Behold. It has now been done.

Although I think this system uses some kind of echo system where the responses of other players are sent back to you based on your input.

I'd like to see more experimentation with it at least. Imagine if you mixed something like that with a Love Plus style game. I don't think I'd buy it but I could imagine it being popular.

Gehh...my computer decided to be slow when I tried to run it. Guess I have to restart my computer )and if it:s still slow...I dunno...)
EDIT: OKay! A restart is all I needed! Sooo...
This game is both hilarious and frustrating XD At first, it feels good to vent, even if to a chatbot. But then she gets frustrating and you begin insulting her, LOL. I took screenies of her BEST replies, LOL.

Well this is way innovative I think. Not bad for an experimental game, but I think you could make it more interactive.
Eliza kept asking me whether I could elaborate on what I was saying and she kept answering the same thing, what a pattern o_o -(haha, funny you say she's dumb xD)
It just needs a little bit of improvements

I think even giving her a basic memory would be cool.
The ultimate would be a Cleverbot type affair where she could learn from different users.
Hmmmmm. Maybe I should teach her to play Twenty Questions.
