Re: 5 Textbox Sets [public domain]
Oh. My. Gosh!
I love the blue one! Very pretty!!! *.*
So, uhm... do I need to download the textbox or just copy and paste it?
If I need to download, where could I download it?

The blue fancy textbox look sooo pretty *___* (can you tell me your secret in making the border??)
I would be very happy to use it in my game, but I don't have the skill to match the rest of the GUI with the textbox

-- Short answer: Photoshop.sapiboonggames wrote:The blue fancy textbox look sooo pretty *___* (can you tell me your secret in making the border??)
-- Long answer: I collect border images, resize them, then --on a separate layer-- use the 'magic wand' tool to fill the interior inside the borders.
If you want to match the style, look up: Celtic Knotwork.

I'm a Photoshop addict, so I'm always fiddling with graphics. I'm glad you like them!unknown5 wrote:ooh, i must find a way to use these! i suck at graphic design.

Actually, all the Russian fairy tale images are Biblin.
-- I started collecting the images because I was going to attempt to do 'The Fire Bird' as a visual novel, but the story is so simplistic, I didn't think it would be all that entertaining.

Re: 5 Textbox Sets [public domain]
that's soooo much work! o_O i woulda just nagged them until they went back to the correct path. or promised them cake. or if they persisted, then hit them with the blue screen of death or have them fall off the end of the world and say, "SEE! I TOLDYA SO! WHY DIDN'T YOU LISTEN TO ME? DO YOU EVER LISTEN TO ME??? NOOOOOO. OF COURSE NOT. YOU NEVER LISTEN TO ME! WELL, IT'S TOO LATE NOW. YOU'VE MADE YOUR BED, NOW SLEEP IN IT!" for about five, six, or ten pages. And every so often throughout the rest of the game, the narrator would randomly bring up the player's past mistakes and life choices just to start an argument. And frequently remind them of the definition of 'omniscient', as in 'omniscient narrator', etc. etc.

Uh... But the only way to get the story straight IS to make stupid mistakes. Now do you see the problem?unknown5 wrote:that's soooo much work! o_O i woulda just nagged them until they went back to the correct path... Wow, pretty! Thanks for the resources, Kasumi.
Speaking of which... personally, what do you think makes a good textbox design?

- Something that Doesn't take a whole pile of coding tricks to implement.
- Something with controls easy for a new player to understand at a glance. (Something that doesn't take a tutorial to figure out.)
- Something that doesn't block the images behind it more than necessary.
- Something that doesn't make the text difficult to read.
- Something that compliments the artistic style of the game, but doesn't distract the player away from the story they're reading.
