Drawning Board of a beginner
Drawning Board of a beginner
Hello to everyone. I want to share those drawning board of mine, so here I am.
This is a project of a comic I started a week ago. As you can see, this seems really rough with the pen, but the last page is more tidy ( because I bought news and adapted pens at the moment ). I have taken off the introspective speech bubbles, in the ten firsts pages ; I felt that I have to write again this.
Good reading. ( Oh, and I don't have scanner, sorry )

Re: Drawning Board of a beginner
If its not possible to get a scanner, try to take better photos, like in a better light and make sure you can't see around the edges. It makes it look weird when the page is grey and you have a bright white speech box. Also , I was kinda confused what was even going on in the first comic, the guy wrote something then got into bed? You do seem to have a good grip on how to draw humans though
A tip for the comic, perhaps some more detail in the picture? Like an establishing shot, so we know where the guy is, or some general background detail.

Re: Drawning Board of a beginner
Thanks, I am going to take picture more accurate for my ten news boards.
And you're right, I should make an etablishing shot of the background.
For the story, yes, the guy write something, he get in the bed, and have a weird nightmare.

Here is ten news pages. I changed my way to take the picture, the edges aren't great but at the end this is less grey.

Okay, Your pretty good but...
You need to work on your faces. You seem to be going for more realistic so look up "how to draw realistic faces" or look at drawing the human skull so you can get use to the "points"
Next try drawing depth Maybe look at 3d Graph Paper
Check your local School or Library for a scanner OR better lighting. (one source, one light. A cheap Bar light will do.)
Finally ignore the Word bubbles, you don't have to white them just frame them and you'll be fine.

Yes, I see that I need to work the face, they seems... empty to me, it lacks of details.
And I am going to check for the skulls, this is a great idea.
But I don't know what is a 3D Graph Paper...

The 3d paper is linked in my last reply. This will help you with working on depth.Relimount wrote:Yes, I see that I need to work the face, they seems... empty to me, it lacks of details.

The reason the face seem off is because lack of shading and everything is... out or place.

Skulls - Draw them then "flesh them out" about 2 weeks of that and you should have it down.

Re: Drawning Board of a beginner
I am very grateful for your help, and I would never guessed thoses rules about shading.
For the skulls, I will take a picture of thoses, this way, I could exercise myself on this, wherever I am. Strangely, I find that exciting.
And for the 3D Graph Paper, I saw the link already. But I think this is a paper made in order to see how the size of the squares grow in perspective, right ?
Thank you again, this will help me a LOT.

Also, >Proko< shows wonderful ways on how to draw faces and individual features.
It helped me a lot.

More or less, It's not much different then a standard grid just deeper. I use it mostly for Level design but it helps with other things too.Relimount wrote: And for the 3D Graph Paper, I saw the link already. Re: Drawning Board of a beginner
Heya! (: I remember you from my art thread xD
This is pretty neat (I confess that I've never completed a comic because of my, er, lack of planning...). You told me in my thread that my art isn't "dark enough", and I took that to mean shading. I'm no artist, but your work looks like it needs more shading to define your objects. I like the shoe in one page, but it looks monotonous because it has only one shade of gray to it.
Anyway, it's great that you're working on this (: I hope we can both improve!

Re: Drawning Board of a beginner
And finally get white Paper, Cardboard, about 3 sheets of paper or binder (anything really) and put you drawing on top of that. It will make the page brighter and easier to see or cleanup on Gimp.
Also when taking photos try to square it up as much as possible, this will make editing MUCH easier.
When using Photoshop or Gimp Try using the Bright/Contrast Tool. about -30/+40 should do it.
Also could you Retake #27 but with a few sheets of paper behind it, Then impose half With paper and the other half without? [|]

Re: Drawning Board of a beginner
merdeamour, yes I know that I have myself a lack of shading. And I'm hoping too.
dramspringfeald, I didn't really understand the "impose half With paper and the other half without", but I took again the 27# as you asked. The square is weird, however. And I edited the brightness/contrast with Gimp :

Re: Drawning Board of a beginner
do u study/do scene-by-scene breakdown of movies?
i used to have a book on making movies and for fun
i did quick stick-figure sketches of a few scenes from movies
to try to figure out what the director was trying to do.
dunno if it helped me or not tho, heh.
