Background Music for Visual Novel.

#1 Post by TwilightSummer »

Hey I just wanted to know where can I find a website where I can download some free instrumental background music for my visual novel? Or do you know of any programs where I can just make my own?
Please and thank you :D <3!

You should be able to find quite a bit of stuff here, if you search a bit. :)

Newgrounds.com has a music section which is by genre and all submissions are CC, perfect for games. Free one though.

Hallo, I'm Japanese novel&adventure game creater.
Please look at "Indie Games Creation Support net" that I manage.
It mainly introduces a pay material. However, it introduces a free material.

Sorry, I've got nothing to contribute to this topic, infact, I'm looking for help too. I'm not making a VN anytime soon, but I WILL, and when I do, I'm gonna need good BGM (I plan on doing everything Solo,cos I'm just a poor student -_-;)...Anyways, I was wondering if those sites such as 'incomptech' are COMPLETELY free to use.I mean,should we ask for permission or something?
Sorry for bothering you m(_ _)m

You'll find that most of those kind of sites are free to use but are licensed as Creative Commons, essentially meaning they cannot be used in any commercial project and credit has to be made to its creator. So unless you plan on using the music in a project you intend to make money off, they are free to use.

Each site that offers music has license agreements. Not all are the same. If you don't understand what a site's license agreement means, I suggest you contact the owner of that site with specific questions, such as, "Do I have to pay you to use <song title> in a game that I'm making? I'm going to <give the game away for free/sell the game>."

Usually if you want to sell the game, you'll have to pay a fee.
Some of my visual novels are at http://www.the-new-lagoon.com. They are NSFW
Poorly done hand-drawn art is still poorly done art. Be a Poser (or better yet, use DAZ Studio 3D) - dare to be different.

@Kato and fleet
Thank you very much for replying to my post,it might have been a stupid question to answer,but it certainly helped. I'll most likely not make commercial VNs, although I don't know how broke I might be in the future ^^;
Well,thank you again!

How about Jamendo? It has a wide variety of music you can use, but be sure to read the license agreements for each artist first.

I've created over 1000 tracks of music and sound effects that you are welcome to freely use as long as you attribute me as explained on my homepage:

http://soundimage.org/

I hope they are helpful!
