Looking for character assets

Hi there. I've recently started to create a visual novel as a research project, but I was just informed that I cannot do any art work for this project, even though I initially planned to. I don't think I can afford an artist with the quality of drawing that I desire, so it seems to leave me only one option: using existing assets. I'm wondering if anyone here has used character portraits or know of places where you can download them. I have a particular type of characters I'm looking for, but a general direction will be appreciated, and I'll follow up to do my homework. I can do with both free content or paid content. My thanks!

Well, I have been looking for the same some days ago, and finally I found it: I highly suggest you the Tokudaya scripts (they're packs for photoshop; they're not too difficult to use even if you're as clumsy as me -in fact, I downloaded the demo version of PS and made all of the scripts in some hours-). You just have to credit the page if you use them. Here they go:

I can't believe I didn't pay attention to Creative Commons. Tokudaya fantasy looks like the style I'm looking for too.
