Re: Ebi's sketchbook - pic heavy - potentially NSFW
ice breaker (whenever I feel intimidated by a subject I just draw whatever I see in front of me without fussing over it... it always works to get me in the mood and makes me want to improve )
study before concluding it was ineffective whilst this sleepy
usually gestures wake me up... not today though.
not a whole lot to show today.
I was half asleep doing these.
I need squeeze in drawing during breakfast/lunch.
Tried to draw form... but not 100% sure I'm getting it yet
GAAAAAAAHHHHHH I WISH I HAD TIME FOR A GOOD OL' 3 HOUR STILL LIFE DRAWING SESSION
*end rant*
I hate seeing no improvement so much. Can't wait for the break in May. I'm going to have a freaking 3 hour session everyday.
*exits thread in a huff*

I genuinely didn't see your comment in your last post, but, it makes me feel quite happy to see how much you've improved since the first post. Ey'm jealous. :P
Umm, I'm still really bad at drawing form, but for myself at least, I enjoyed drawing the forms/curves of the limbs etc, rather than just drawing the joints or drawing lines. It feels like I'm forcing myself to think about its form, rather than proportions? I dunno, but try that out if you want!

Really?
Aw, that made me feel a little better ^_^, thanks for being so positive! To be honest, with everything I do, I always feel like instead of improving I'm going three steps backwards
And don't be jealous :p You're DA's freaking amazing!
I'll see if I can try your suggestion next time!
I was able to squeeze in a little drawing between studying... didn't even have time for lunch/breakfast T_T
tried to experiment with form, but definitely need to read up on it/find more examples/actually study *gulp* perspective...
but here it is:
I'm going at a snail's pace with Loomis' book

Re: Ebi's sketchbook - pic heavy - potentially NSFW
Saw something like this in my drawing essentials book, so I thought I'd give it a try.
It's quite a challenge trying to find where the apple gets uneven and such.
Then I tried to do some shading, but that failed terribly.
So, I guess I'll continue to draw apples until I get it right, because eventually want to paint one.
And then I'll slowly add different types of fruit until I can draw/paint a fruit bowl

Re: Ebi's sketchbook - pic heavy - potentially NSFW
I finally decided to take the plunge and try oil paints again.
I'm so glad I did! Even though it's not perfect, I think this one turned out so much better
than the previous disaster ---> http://i848.photobucket.com/albums/ab46 ... 73b1fe.png
and my crappy setup with the finished painting:
Some things I learned:
1. The color you think you see may not be the colors you think they are.
I never thought I would use really light orange for an apple that I assumed was red.
2. Maybe it's better to work in an ventilated room, instead of my tiny bedroom.
*high off turpentine XD* And my lungs feel "tired" >_>
3. Don't be stingy with your paints.
Last time, every time I opened a paint tube to add more paint, it was like I felt something dying inside of me. So I mixed the colors with tons of turpentine and tried to stretch it as far as possible.
This is incredibly frustrating to paint with.
Today, I didn't care. I used paint when I needed it and the result is so much better, and the painting was so much less frustrating.
I didn't use any turpentine though. Should I have?

Wow that second attempt at oil painting is a huge improvement! From what I remember being taught turpentine and/or Gamsol is mainly used for cleaning brushes. Though it's been a while so my teacher might have mentioned using it as a thinner before and I've just forgotten. I personally only used it for cleaning brushes, especially while im painting since soap and water's no good. If you do want to use a thinner I suggest getting something like linseed oil and only using a few drops of it.

Re: Ebi's sketchbook - pic heavy - potentially NSFW
Thanks! That means a lot to me.
I'm planning on getting a book on brushwork though, in the hopes of learning how to add detail and such because I really messed up with that on the Apple (like the green stuff in the left kind of makes the Apple look fuzzy to me).
Really? I seem to have misplaced my oil painting books, but I remember reading something like this "fat over lean" rule
.So, they were talking about thinning the oil paint with turpentine when you are doing an under painting/the first layers..
And then gradually going up to "fatter" paint (by using the paint as is first, and then adding linseed oil, or a mixture of linseed oil and turpentine… Or something IT'S SO COMPLICATED (T^T).
But, I guess if you're just starting out, using the paint as is is probably better.
I agree, using turpentine to clean your brushes in between colors makes life so much easier.
At first I tried it with sunflower oil, but turpentine (or the alternative that I use for that) is just a lot faster. ^^
--------------------------------------
Just a bunch of stupid stuff. Testing my A5 Daler Rowney dummy.
(got a parcel from an art store with stuff to make my own oil paint, so I can feel less guilty using more paint*. I'm so excited to start making my own paint! XD only "safe" pigments though. Got the sketchbook too.
*logic...there is none.)
Lots of RSI pain these days, gives me headaches and makes me freaking cranky.
10-20 minutes per figure.
And I can't stop giving these poor girls raptor arms!
Most heads are too small too.
Note to self:
Once the pain goes down again I'm going to tackle perspective!

Re: Ebi's sketchbook - pic heavy - potentially NSFW
wrote post, got deleted. -_-
in short:
passed exams, less stress, more time for drawing yay. But I still have RSI.
testing out some paints I got way long ago. Going to use them next weekend
Just messing about with procreate and ifaraday SALT stylus (it's freakin' awesome!).
When I don't have access to/time for real paint, but am craving some colour, I might just use procreate for quick studies.
need to do more perspective studies to get better at gestures etc.
