Once upon a time in old Russia, a Tsar was having his Golden Apples stolen by a rather unusual thief.

That's were the story began, but not at all where it ended.

In this story you will meet several different characters.

Tsar Vyslav and his three sons...
Ivan02b.jpg
Prince Ivan and Princess Elena...
Ivan06.jpg
Baba Yaga, an inherited position.

And the Great Gray Wolf.

Of course, along the way there are minor challenges...

Ohhhh... I'm eagerly anticipating with everyone else. The firebird has been one of my most favourite stories and I am very excited to see what unexpected twists and variations you've made up for this~ Just three more hours. *-*

Yes! though it's not exactly what most might consider 'romance.'
-- While both Ivan and Elena are looking for prospective spouses, the way they're going about it wouldn't exactly be considered Romantic. No hearts & flowers, or heartfelt declarations of love for these two.

The Firebird is very much one of my favorite stories too, so I really hope I don't disappoint.

Just finished getting all the endings. There were quite a few moments that made me laugh (Baba Yaga's lines in particular) which I hadn't anticipated. The characters and the dynamics between characters were just great (poor Ivan! or should it be poor Elena, for putting up with him?) and I loved the art and story... this one is definitely something that I'll come back to for a re-read or two or three. :)

It was fun to choose the more dangerous choices, just to see what would happen.
Like bringing Ivan back to life.
And it really felt like interacting with a fairytale--I appreciate how you included fairytale style choices, consequences and logic (or lack thereof, rather).

Yay! I've been really excited for this since I am a huge fan of fairy tales. Not to mention the graphics are amazing and extremely fitting for a game like this. I've only played a little bit so far, but I really love it and I can tell you put a lot of effort into this :) Can't wait to play more!

Baba Yaga's character is my interpretation of a cranky, know-it-all. ;) I'm glad it made you laugh.
ketskari wrote:The characters and the dynamics between characters were just great, (poor Ivan! or should it be poor Elena, for putting up with him?)
That was exactly the reaction I was looking for. ;)
-- Since I was using the same model for most the character art, I wanted to be sure that their personalities were at least very, very different.
ketskari wrote:...and I loved the art and story... this one is definitely something that I'll come back to for a re-read or two or three. :)
*Squee!* I'm absolutely thrilled you liked the game that much!
ketskari wrote:It was fun to choose the more dangerous choices, just to see what would happen.
Good! I didn't want those choices to be a simple "Game Over." (I wanted a complicated "Game Over"!)
ketskari wrote:

I actually wanted to do more with that, but by then the game was already so huge...! (One person doing everything... It was a bit much.)
ketskari wrote:And it really felt like interacting with a fairytale--I appreciate how you included fairytale style choices, consequences and logic (or lack thereof, rather).
LOL! That's precisely what I wanted this game to be -- an interactive Fairy Tale, where the options were that of a fairy tale, not just the pictures & story.

I am absolutely thrilled you enjoyed my work. Thank you.

I'm so glad you like them.
-- I wanted to be sure it looked as 'fairy tale' as possible, without going overboard into 'warped beyond recognition'.

I am absolutely thrilled that you're enjoying it.

Got all endings at last - "Hallelujah"!
The game is just great - art, music, so much effort on a visual side and on details of fairy-tale world. Especially enjoyed Baba Yaga with her oven and chicken-leg-cabin.
"Oh, he's all that and a bowl of borscht too." - lol

"However, after dinner, you better grab a thick blanket because you'll be sleeping outside the cabin tonight." - that was cruel, you know

Ah, good old Russia - an arrowproof pyjama with sleeves protectors (bet even Chuck Norris doesn't have one)...))
Thank you very much for making it!

Thank you, so very much!
-- I normally make the GUI and backgrounds in one PSD file, (to be absolutely sure that everything fits exactly where it's supposed to,) but I had to divide that file into two separate PSD files because the one file got to be almost 800 mb in size! By the way, the PSD file for just Ivan alone (and all his costume changes) is over 600 MB.
Alex wrote:...Especially enjoyed Baba Yaga with her oven and chicken-leg-cabin.
Well, it's Traditional.
-- Baba Yaga really does run around in a cabin with chicken legs, and is extremely good at sticking herself in just about every Russian fairy tale there is -- especially if the main character's name is Ivan.

-- I do. *evil smirk* Russia is damned cold!
Ah, good old Russia - an arrowproof pyjama with sleeves protectors (bet even Chuck Norris doesn't have one) :)
-- Well, Russia is not only damned cold, especially at night, it's damned dangerous too. You did notice that the pyjamas weren't Sword-proof, right? And over-sleeves are Cool. All the cool kids in Fantasy Medieval Russia had them. :P

I just played through it and got two different endings. I'll try getting the other two later,
but I really liked the third ending (the happy happy one) so I'm not sure if I really want to know what the other two endings were like XD;;
This game was so much fun! :D The fairy tale feel is lovely, and I really liked the characterisation of Ivan and Elena. The GUI was marvellous! Thanks so much for creating such a lovely free game!

I am so, so glad you enjoyed playing my game!
-- I'm very pleased that you liked my interpretations of Ivan and Elena. I wanted to keep Ivan as close to the classic Russian character as possible; foolish, yet wise, and quite blood-thirsty, but I refused to leave the Princess a mere lifeless doll.

I'm also glad you liked the GUI.
-- My biggest worry is that I'll make something too complicated to figure out how to use...
