VN Writing Circles. Interested?
I understand there are a lot of writing circles for novelists, but not sure if there are any for English language VNs.
I won't put up a wall of text here, but Wikipedia has a descriptive page on what writing circles are and how they work here.
So my question is, are many people interested in forming writing circles? If enough are interested, I'd also like to discuss suitable formats. For example, how best to share writing samples, suitable ways to give feedback, and how we can group people together sensibly. This is all with the presumption that it will take place online, as we are a sparse community, geographically speaking.

The #renpy IRC channel is a great place to chat with other devs. Due to the nature of IRC and timezone differences, people probably won't reply right away.

Actually, I like the sound of it, it would be useful for analytical skills development, and meeting new people is always fun.

Sure, I'd be up for it, but it would probably be more convenient to hold on-line.

I edited it just seconds before the online thing was mentioned. Good to know you guys feel the same way.TrickWithAKnife wrote:This is all with the presumption that it will take place online, as we are a sparse community, geographically speaking.

I was part of the irc chat about this :p
Yah, I'm really interested in something like this.

This sounds like it could be really great. My guess would be a wiki and IRC combination would probably work best, maybe with periodic events to help build community.

I'm interested as well. Maybe a private or group-specific forum?

Re: VN Writing Circles. Interested?
Could have at least mentioned our original discussion was at the IRC. (Or that my high-brow self was the one who brought up writing circles in said discussion but you took it to action, so everybody wins) We made another few additional points over there that were good. Besides, it could give #renpy some traffic asides the random drop-in asking for a quick coding fix before leaving.
But yes, as I mentioned on IRC, I think it's a much needed idea over here on par with the Honest Critique on our sigs.
EDIT: For those interested, you can start by reading this guide. Good place to start getting acquainted with the art of critiquing. I'll find additional resources if this gains enough steam. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me, as I have some experience from the writing community.

Re: VN Writing Circles. Interested?
As Syr touched on, there's been a lot of discussion about VN writing circles, the advantages and disadvantages to the existing writing forum, and suitable ways to run them.
I certainly don't want to take away from the forum, as it's an invaluable resource. Some of the advantages that writing circles have is that it can allow for more pre-emptive improvements. For example, setting each other challenges based on areas that people need to work on. From what I've heard, writing circles tend to be fairly small, but you guys may have differing opinions. I definitely want to get this thing up and running by the end of the week, but need to figure out some details first.
Question 1: How many people would you prefer to be in a group with?
Question 2: What is your ideal way of working within a circle? What I mean is, do you prefer using LSFs existing writing forum, using google docs, or something else?
Question 3: If the circle sizes are limited, would you prefer a range or writing experiences, similar experiences, or perhaps matching one experienced writer with some less experienced writers?
Question 4: If the group sizes are limited, would you like to write a but of info about yourself, your writing style, possibly samples and experiences? Might make it a bit easier to find groups that match.
