Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. I'm gonna try playing through both paths alternately.Laveil Kurtis wrote: Near the end of Phase 1, there's a choice like "Who will you download the Purger Crystal?" Make two saves before choosing.
Is not very important, but is has some changes, like the next boss music and the reyvateil in combat.
The real one is the choice "Do you want to go the the search party?"
Yes => Misha's Path
No => Aurica's Path
How do you make your games? I see. Thank you for the prompt replies, but it is my considered opinion that you're doing it wrong inefficiently because I am a perfushenal professional. No! No! No! Glitch of death after getting the soleil stone in Misha's path. Good thing I still have a previous save, but it's near the beginning of phase 2 so I can start Aurica's path... I think I'll go and cry now.
edit: hee! I must have set some kind of record. I breezed through Misha's path in phase 2 up to the tail of reminiscence in under 3 hours. At least now I'm back where I started from. Hopefully, no more glitches.
edit2: What the? Lady Shurelia's cosmosphere is a series of visual novels?
edit3: Anyone else still playing this game? Just finished on phase 2 and phase 3 of misha's path plus Shurelia's ending. I'm now working on Aurica's path, good thing phase 2 is completely different depending on which reyvateil you choose so it doesn't really feel like playing the same game again. Singer Angel Shurelia made pretty good use of bishoujo game clichés for a VN that was just tacked on as extra to the main game.
Also, I've noticed that nobody ever uses any song magic except for the default big energy ball, healing magic and Tower Connection or Ar Tonelico... but I actually found the elemental guards (wind guard, thunder guard etc.) pretty useful for phase 1-2 with some atk enhancing installs. They not only add elemental defense and elemental damage to attacks, they also give you free healing when you reach level 3

Re: Ar tonelico
I went to the EB Games near Lakeland to pick up a copy, and I went up to the desk to ask them if they had it. I turned around, and—lo and behold! There was a near mint-condition box on the shelf announcing Ar Tonelico with art book, case, instruction manual, scratch-free disk and everything. I dropped $40 right there and bought it.
I'll tell you how it goes ... right now, I've gotten a new PS2 and my list of games to beat is getting surprisingly long due to my tendency to pick up obscure RPGs and games that fly under a lot of people's radar ... (Tales of the Abyss, Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter, Indigo Prophecy, Shadow of the Colossus, ICO, Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, Ender's Game, and now Ar Tonelico ... )

Remember to watch out for the super-killer-glitch in misha's path near the end of phase 2.
I've read on gamefaqs and it's present in any version of the game.

Re: Ar tonelico
Ahh, this thread reminds me I still have Aurica's path to do... but I'm not really to motivated. It's a great game, but Shurelia is hands down the best revyateil, and I thought all the endings were kinda lacking...
Actually, the only one I really liked is probably supposed to be the most disappointing...

If you just end things after phase 2 when Shurelia sings "Suspend" and don't try to save her. Poor Shurelia ;_;
But then again, it does have that kind of bittersweet taste I've come to expect (and want) from most vn games, so that might explain it.http://www.twitter.com/drakeynv

Re: Ar tonelico
I though that the true endings were satisfying actually. Of course, I never really gave it much thought when I saw them. Maybe I just subconsciously wanted to like them because of the extra hours I did in order to get them, but I can attribute that to the game as well for being light-hearted and interesting enough to make me "not think" and just enjoy my playthrough. The only ending I haven't tried is the bad ending which is actually the hardest to get.
hehe Shurelia sometimes really falls flat on her face when she releases her song magic. I like her character design but I think her english VA sounds a bit too mature.
Oh yeah... what about the first ending for Singer Angel Shurelia? Now that was bittersweet of the vn variety.

Re: Ar tonelico
Hmm... well, I mean, the ending itself is fine. Perhaps a little long running, but the more route specific moments of the end felt really cheap:
However, I feel that the extra hours put into it weren't wasted at all. It was time well spent (with Shurelia of course). And the Singer Angel Shurelia bit was one of the best parts in the game. I couldn't help laughing through most of it, it's just so wonderfully cliched, I just couldn't not laugh, but I really did like the bittersweet first ending (which then I again felt cheated when you change the ending in the next level of the cosmosphere, but whatever... just a side story).
*Lyner and Misha ready to leave when Shurelia speaks up*
Shurelia: Lyner... I-I love you.
Choice: Pick [ Shurelia ] or [ Misha ]
>> Shurelia
Lyner: Sorry, Misha, but I love Lady Shurelia.
Misha: Oh... well, it's okay. I'll be back some day.
Lyner: Alright then. Later!
*Some time passes*
Misha: I'm back!
Lyner and Shurelia: Welcome back!

I felt a little cheated, and I'm not really all that motivated to go through Aurica's route any time soon. But, I really shouldn't have expected anything else. We're dealing with Lyner after all... I'm not gonna fault the ending too much though. (I know the real reason I'm in no hurry to play Aurica's route... I find her to be painfully boring, so playing through a route with her as the focus doesn't sound to appealing to me.)Shurelia: Lyner... I-I love you.

Re: Ar tonelico
I've read on the GameFAQs boards that some players were a bit dissatisfied with the phase 3 endings because they're rushed... sounds like a case of RPG Cliche #182.
Ar tonelico 2 will be released in Japan on Oct. 25 and will feature the same four female singers (Haruka Shimotsuki, Akiko Shikata, Noriko Mitose, and Yuuko Ishibashi) from the first game.
In other news...Compression of Time
As you approach the final confrontation with the villain, events will become increasingly awkward, contrived and disconnected from one another -- almost as if some cosmic Author was running up against a deadline and had to slap together the ending at the last minute.

I got Shurelia's and I love Aurica's the best.
Ummm....
It's really cool, except for one thing, Rudolph's voice really sucks.

Re: Ar tonelico
Currently playing it on PC (emulation). Now on the P2 Misha's patch, where I decided to fix my ship. Loving it.
Too bad Krushe is off limits... T_T. But both Misha and Aurica are lovable, and I yet to see Lady Shurelia.
PS. English voices are BAD.
Edit: Forgot to ask. Can anyone enlighten me about the meaning behind GD Resist? While Harmonic Speed is self-explainatory, and Burst variation I believe is singing speed, I am totally dark about it.

Re: Ar tonelico
GD Regist/Resist signifies how fast a Reyvateil's MP is drained while singing. I forgot the exact mechanics of how this happens, though.

Re: Ar tonelico
Ar Tonelico, talking about the supposedly the best RPG in PS2. Collaboration between big companies like Banpresto, Gust, and NIS America.
Actually it's very disappointing (not that it actually bad), may be it's just me, so show me some light.
To make my post short, the main problem lies in the story. No matter how I look, it's very similar to manga (also made into anime and PS2 game) Erementar Gerad (some said it's Elemental Gelade). Except if the scenario/story writer is the same person, I must say that AR's (Ar Tonelico) story is almost a rip-off from EG's (Erementar Gerad).
These are the similarities, make your own judgment :
1. AR: Lyner is a hot headed guy who doesn't like Reyvateils used and treated as weapons.
EG: Craud is a hot headed sky-pirates who doesn't like Eden Raid used and treated as weapons.
2. AR: Reyvateils (Reyv) is person who can sing and use them as weapons (magics) and they are rare (ranging from the purest/Shurelia and not so pure/Aurica) so treated as important "comodity"
EG: Eden Raid (ER) is person who can fuse with human and transform into weapon (this process is called Pleasure), their magic are songs and the human must also sing with his/her ER. ER is rare ranging from the purest (you can say princess of all ER)/Reverie Metherlence to mere imitation/called Sting Raid. ER are also treated as important "commodities".
3. AR: Both Aurica and Misha are Reyv who don't like human due to their past-expriences, but changed when meeting Lyner.
EG: Reverie Metherlence (or Ren) is ER that hates human due to their natures but changed when meeting Craud.
4. AR: Mir is a super strong Reyv that once side with human but then abused by humans and then human want to destroy her (ultimately seal her). Now she's back for revenge. She is not a truly bad person and ends with her being live together with humans again.
EG: Chaos Choir is a group of ER that want to eradicate humans because of their bad treatment to ERs. They want to use Ren (as their leader and their ultimate weapon) but ends with CC try to understand and living with humans again (anime ending, I don't know the manga one)
5. AR: The background story: human and Reyv used to live and fight together side by side, singing songs together. But now they are separated and you now what.
EG: The background story: ER and human used to live and fight together side by side, singing songs together. But now they are separated and you now what.
6: AR: In order to shorten the gap between Reyv and Lyner, Lyner must dive into Reyv and synch with them.
EG: In order to shorten the gap between ER and the user, the user must train together (and when they do pleasure/fusion), the user dive into ER sub-consciousness and must synch with the ER.
7. AR: Pure Reyv live far longer than human. Not so pure Reyv live shorter than human (and must eat special medicines).
EG: ER live longer than human, Sting Raid live shorter than human.
8: AR: Leynr ultimately understands Mir and try to beat some sense to her without killing her.
EG: Craud try to reasoning with Chaos Choir and ultimately made peace with them.
9: AR: In the end, Shurelia, Misha, and Aurica sing a new song, meaning they create a new song, something that can not be done after thousands of years.
EG: In final battle, Craud and Ren sing a new song, meaning they created a new song, something that can not be done after thousands of years since human forget how to sing and use ancient words.
10: They use song as magics and weapons.
So.... how about that? These similarities really disappointing me. The more I play, the more I think AR as EG.
