Great Animation in Ren'py games?

#1 Post by Mistik »

I'm making my next game with a professional 2D/3D animator. It's a visual novel, so I of course want to use Ren'py.

What are great examples of Ren'py games that use animation?

Tutorials and renpy games that push animation are also welcome.

At one point there was a Flash to Ren'Py converter that was created that would let you use flash animations in Ren'Py, but that's about it and it's been awhile since I've seen any posts about it (you can search easy enough). I'm not really sure of really great animation, but Katawa Shoujo does some impressive stuff, but they're mostly just playing movie files. In terms of getting to learn more about doing animations, I would check out the ATL reference in the Ren'Py documentation.

Good luck!

Wasn't there a bible-themed game at some point that was notable for renpy animations?

I personally am using flash for some scenes in my game. It's a very versatile tool, but if you want to make the really hardcore anime-like animations, other programs are probably better.
Most ren'py games I've seen just use the default system provided, as its faster and easier.
