[Game Jam] Indies VS Pewdiepie!
Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone would be interested in participating in the Indies VS Pewdiepie Game Jam coming up in 2 weeks?
The theme of the jam is "fun to play, fun to watch", which I think could be accomplished with a visual novel that is either completely wacky and/or hilarious. The jam is 72 hours long, and starts on November 21st, and ends on the 23rd.
The rules:
1. Entries must be made exclusively for this jam. Don't enter a game that you are entering in another jam/contest.
2. Games must be representative of the jam's theme (fun to play, fun to watch, with an emphasis on humor).
3. All assets must be made during the 72 hour jam period.
4. You can use any existing tools, engines, libraries, or languages.
5. Collaborations and group efforts are welcome. You can find people looking to team up in the jam forum thread or the dedicated jam chat room on Game Jolt.
6. Multiple submissions are fine (though we advise spending any extra time you might have on making a single entry shine).
7. Be cool. No racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, religious prejudice or other forms of hate speech. No personal attacks. No pornographic content. Nothing illegal.
This would be a collaborative effort, so if anyone would like to join as an artist, coder, developer, composer, writer, or editor, that would be awesome! I have a few ideas already but am completely open to any ideas or suggestions you guys might have. Feel free to comment on here or PM me if you'd like to find out more!

Sounds like lots of fun actually. I might be in as a writer and basic coder too.

Awesome, thanks for your interest!Godline wrote:Sounds like lots of fun actually. I might be in as a writer and basic coder too.
I can also code but I am still learning, so I don't know how to do super complex stuff yet, although with this we should aim to keep it simple. I can also do art too(although it won't be anime, but maybe vector style/cartoon) so no worries there.
Did you guys have any fun ideas that you'd be excited to write about?
So far I have 2, but if there's any ones that you have please let me know!
One idea I had was to do a dating-sim type game in the same spirit as Jurassic Heart (dinosaur dating sim), Hatoful Boyfriend (pidgeon dating game), or My girlfriend is an alpaca (llama dating sim). Basically you are a human in an alternate universe that can date animals/inanimate objects that talk and are sentient. These games are silly and light-hearted, and never take themselves seriously, and I think it'd be easy to come up with more than one route, especially if we had different animals or whatever. It might be fun, though, instead of animals, to do something else. What if we did a game set in the future, and you were a human on another planet, with many potential alien suitors? What if you were a mechanic at a workshop at there were different cars you could date? Or what if you had a main character that spent so much time online, and was able to date memes?
But I'm just spitballin ideas Would love to hear yours!

Ugh... Pewdiepie.
But if you're working on this, sasquatchii, I wouldn't be adverse to helping y'all out.
I do like the idea of a really strange dating sim. Someone threw the idea around about a periodic table dating sim, and I really liked it. Maybe something similar?

I can write and edit.
I can also do music as long as you aren't expecting a full sonata. If the game's not serious it won't be too hard.
I'm personally thinking about a superhero, wizard etc. setting where the protagonist is with a bunch of interesting characters and yet has no or useless powers.
Whatever you guys do, I'm on board.

I kind of want to join but I'm not sure about what I can do (art? gui?) and about the idea. Sure, implementation is much more important here but dating objects / animals seems a bit unoriginal, apart from your list there's a game where you can date a cake and one with a pet squid (both are pretty good though), not mentioning more serious ones with all sorts of creatures (The Duenkhy) or pets turning into humans (Dandelion)
What about a fairy matchmaking agency with all sorts of weird clients?

Re: [Game Jam] Indies VS Pewdiepie!
Heya guys! Sorry I haven't responded to anyone for the last 2 days. I have been feeling a little under the weather & am recovering!
I made a forum where we can go to discuss ideas, please sign up & comment if you are interested
There is also a poll where we can vote to decide what we will make the game about. I have added everyone's ideas so far from this thread & also from people who have PM'ed me. I feel like this is the only fair option if we are going to work as a team.
@breadslam: Hey!! Thank you for volunteering to help And I can understand your reluctance to do a gamejam with pewdiepie in it, after watching his intro video on the website, he came off as a little insincere and phony, but didnt seem like a terrible person. (I have never heard of him until I found out about the game jam!)
Also, I love your idea about a periodic element table dating sim. Do you actually date the elements?! Would it be educational? I'd like to hear more
@ImmortalMonkey: Yay, another writer & editor! And yeah, if you want to do music too that would be amazing And yeah, I wouldn't expect an entire soundtrack or anything like that (I understand that you guys have lives and don't expect anyone to lose sleep over this game jam)
@Anne: You can do whatever you want! Seriously. You're more than welcome to work on the art/gui (your art skills are AMAZING and total eye candy) so we'd be lucky to have you on board. I also was thinking about helping out with art/gui assets, so maybe we could collaborate and split up some of the work?
I also love the idea of a fairy matchmaking agency. I'm curious as to how something like that might work, gameplay wise. It's interesting to me because I think this has the potential to be more unique than your run of the mill dating sim- with more options and interaction for players. And also the potential for silliness & shenanigans!

Ooh, forgot to mention that I think the forums will be a great way to talk and collaborate before we start the project, but during the project it'll probably be easier to chat via skype! My skype is blurtleturtle00 if anyone would like to add me
