Re: How many people play with sound?
I always play with sound! I couldn't imagine not playing with sound. Well...if maybe the sound were really, really, really badly done. But even then, I'd probably still play with the really bad sound so that I could actually critique the sound in detail when writing a review.
A Close Shave:
*Last Thing Done (Aug 17): Finished coding emotions and camera for 4/10 main labels.
*Currently Doing: Coding of emotions and camera for the labels--On 5/10
*First Next thing to do: Code in all CG and special animation stuff
*Next Next thing to do: Set up film animation
*Other Thing to Do: Do SFX and Score (maybe think about eye blinks?) Check out My Clock Cookbook Recipe: http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewto ... 51&t=21978

Re: How many people play with sound?
I always start with sound, but may turn it off if:
1) I want it quiet (in a public place, other people listening to something, etc)
2) Music loops are too short or music is annoyingly cliche
or
3) There are grating sound effects that happen on mouseovers, etc.

Always, even when there's no voice.

Re: How many people play with sound?
Unless it's dissonant, sound keeps me engaged, so yes I do play with sound on. Especially if there's voice acting, the characters just come to life Just having a sprite and text box there is not enough for me, I want to hear them talk!
The BGM adds greatly to the atmosphere, and SFX can add a nice touch to a scene. It really enhances the playing experience.
