[CLOSED] Artist wanted for RPG + Visual Novel + Raising Sim

#1 Post by CSPlusC »

EDIT: we have already received a bid from a strong candidate and are proceeding from there. We may re-open this thread later if we need additional artists. I appreciate everyone who contacted me to discuss the project!

Hi folks!! We’re looking to hire an artist for our new game. We expect to release a demo (Kickstarter/Greenlight) in a couple months, and the game itself in 6 months to a year. Right now we just want a sample, so we can decide who would make a good fit. But please do not apply if you can’t make a major commitment to doing the game.

Style: Anime/Fantasy.

Content: 2d Portraits, Outfits, Background.

Rating: PG13 (more may be implied, but the most risque thing you’d have to draw is a kiss)

About the game: RPG/Visual Novel/Raising Sim. The main character is an orphan left to fend for herself at 14. She grows up throughout the course of the game, while doing lots of jobs around town. One month she’s a baker, the next month she’s a blacksmith, the next month she’s a knight! Meanwhile she nurtures friendships/romances/rivals. The tone is relatively light, although there are darker paths she can go down. It’s up to the player what she becomes. Essentially we are working on a refined and modern take on Princess Maker 2. Bringing combat simulation, in depth social interaction (eg. Dragon Age Origins-esque), quests and store structure, more jobs, and better endings.

About the team: There are 3 of us working on it right now. We’ve got the bare-bones game mechanics programmed. We’ve started adding content. So we are very confident in our ability to release a demo in a month or two. If the Kickstarter is successful, we will absolutely be carrying this through to the end. Naturally, it's being done in Ren'Py (though much customized, as we're using Articy for generating dialogue and events).

Timeline:
Initial job: we hire you for some limited work...some concept art of the main character and a handful of the NPCs. We see if your style is a good fit for the game and if we enjoy working together. That is what this forum post is for.

If the first job goes well, then we'll hire you to do the art for the demo. We're still speccing out exactly what we need, though I can give you a rough estimate:
a. Main character: 10 expressions + 25 to 30 outfits (as a raising sim she would need many different outfits for the various jobs and tasks). Would want one full body shot per outfit, with the various expressions being applied to bust portraits
b. Minor NPCs: Around 15 with just a bust portrait and 3 expressions
c. Major NPCs: Roughly 4 to 6 with 2 outfits and 5 expressions. Would need at least two full body per major NPC
d. Monsters: static pictures of 5 or so creatures for the early part of the game
e. Backgrounds: 10 to 12 for the major locations of the game. Possibly a few of the minor ones as well, though we're focusing on the character art for the demo rather than the locations

Full game: Roughly we’d expect about twice as much as all of the above. There could be much more depending on how successful the Kickstarter is. Of course there could also be no final job if it completely flops, so let's get some good art together to help make sure that doesn't happen!
