Seven Kingdoms: The Princess Problem (FULL DEMO!)

#1 Post by alylt »

Edited: 6/7 with the release of the full demo :)

Hi everyone! Thanks so much for your patience and for the hard work of all our amazing beta testers! We are finally ready to release the full demo! (It's still not perfect, but any errors that remain are on me and not our amazing betas who put in so much hard work and were just unbelievably awesome through the whole process!)
Image
You will find the (updated) link and some tips and hints here: http://sevenkingdomsgame.wordpress.com/demo/

And here is our original game thread: http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewto ... 10#p349010

In the full demo you will find:
-The first three weeks of the game.
-Over 160,000 words of content.
-Six unique backgrounds.
-The ability to start 12 unique romances.
-Meet and befriend over 22 characters.
-77 possible achievements.
-A Fanart Gallery.
-11 unlockable short scenes written from the POV of the romanceable game characters.

While this is the full demo, it still contains many features that are not final. We anticipate the following might change before the final game:
-Backgrounds
-GUI (especially the preferences page/the save-load page/the relationship bars/and the bonus section)
-The Journal
-CGs (or rather the lack of them)

Loading saves from earlier versions of the demo may cause bugs. New games are recommended. (If you want to load old saves, try and load a save earlier than the end of any of the previous demos.)

Thanks so much! I really hope you enjoy playing the game!

Version 1.5 is now out
http://sevenkingdomsgame.wordpress.com/demo/

Changes:
-A New Your Page and Your Page Button, including a who have you met section as a refresher to match names and faces

-New Activity Choice Screens

-A new happy sound effect every time you pass a check

-There is now difficulty levels, start a new game on Story Mode (all previous saves will be considered on Challenge Mode) and you will find hosting and challenges easier and it is impossible for your story to come to an end before the end of the game. (Although surviving doesn’t guarantee that you will be able to accomplish everything you want.)

-The check for defensive instincts during the riding challenge in the second week has been lowered

-Many misc. bug and text fixes, more spacing added etc.

The Demo now goes to the end of the second week!

Now you can:

-Find another hidden scene

-Unlock another romance scene

-Attend Penelope and Cordelia’s friendship event

-Compete in the ship races

All of these changes have been made because of our awesome players! We so appreciate all your feedback and hope you will continue to give it! You are all the best!
v 1.1
Changes include:

- Added more fonts and the option to change fonts in the preferences/options menu (Default font is now the large font!)

- Changed some of the backgrounds to be less distracting/easier on the eyes

- spaced out the intro for easier reading

- fixed some text so descriptions now fit the sprite

(All of these changes were made at the requests/spotting eye of players. Thank you so much to those who gave us feedback! If you have feedback to give please let us know!)

I have played this game twice and it was for a few hours already. I love how the backgrounds affect the storyline. In my second plaything I find out more about my pirate's background and how it affects my play through.

I don't want to put any more work on your plate and my opinion is not serious, but in the beginning when I am choosing my background, say that I am born beautiful. Why would it show a weakness be that I didn't carry much beauty? That seem to contradict each other.

I love the Pirate Prince Hamin. I didn't expect to even think about him, and then he shows up and sweeps my character off her feet! He even saves me when my horse was about to fall off a cliff.

How do I get an added boost to see the interpersonal relations between people?
And is there any way to even sorta impress the matchmaker the first time?

Hi Victorita! Thanks so much for the comment and for playing!

Each choice you make in the intro section changes your stats, but also later choices can affect them, too. If you choose beauty in the beginning, but then say it was a weakness later, it will go down.
Also their are levels of stats. If you pick one choice in the intro for beauty, you will get +25 beauty, which will give you 50 beauty out of 100 possible. (The matchmaker is super picky and will insult just about everyone's skills unless you have really high levels)
How do I get an added boost to see the interpersonal relations between people?
Do you mean the interpersonal insight skill? This is a cumulative skill, which means its made up of a bunch of different skills. Interpersonal insight requires:
Politics, insight and people knowledge
And is there any way to even sorta impress the matchmaker the first time?
Nope! At best she will insult you a little bit less. You will get a rematch to impress her again in week three~

Oh! One thing I had meant to say; when I meant "space out" I had just meant that it reveals more text with a click, instead of it all appearing at once.
Also, sometimes there is a character speaking (in ") and you'll have a bit of description inbetween. It might just be me nitpicking, but it is a little distracting, it might be best to only have dialogue in boxes that have names over them, otherwise it's quite confusing.

Hi alyIt!

I hope you've been having a lovely holiday season!
Here are some typos and such that I found when I played through version 1.1. The bug I saw in version 1.0 (Jasper’s sprite appearing behind Ria when she gave me beauty tips) didn't seem to be there anymore, so right on! I bolded the part of the sentence with the problem, because even I had a hard time noticing it sometimes when I’d read back through the list, even though I found it in the first place. I hope this helps! :) (sorry for the long post)

From the game introduction:

“For you in particular. One can not begin until one knows what one has begun, after all.”
“You were escorted by strange, silver-eyed servants into a large castle, made in part, by great frescoes of colored glass.”
[I learned that a fresco is made by painting on wet plaster. I think you might be thinking of a mosaic made of colored glass rather than a fresco.]
“Will you be a actor of fate, or merely one of its victims?”
“You would have preferred it otherwise, but now that your here you’ll adapt.”

After I’ve made my character and become a delegate from Hise:

“It was a difficult choice, but after seeing the effect of having lost your mother had on him, and the worry your being gone had, you couldn’t put him through that again.”
[This just seemed a little confusing. One possible alternative: “It was a difficult choice, but after seeing the effect that losing your mother had on him, and the worry your being gone had caused, you couldn’t put him through that again.”]
“Unsurprisingly, the group of your countrymen is diverse and loud- both in the way the are dressed and in actual literal volume.”
“The son of the leader of the free cities, here given the curtsy title of Prince, although Hise has no such thing as royalty, and his cousin, an actual princess on her father’s side, came to the Isle on their own ship.”
“She is the only one of the delegation that did not win a contest, having received special permission for the Leader of the Free Cities…”
“Princess Penelope stands with natural grace, showing off her elaborate silver-brocade gown.”
[The description doesn’t match the sprite.]
“Prince Zarad takes your hand into his and bows over it deeply, looking up at you through lidded eyes with an carefully restrained smolder.”
“You put your hand and his and willingly allow him to pull you into a waltz.”
“You do your best to flirt as charismatically as he he is.”
“The incomparable lady Avalie smiles as you approach, but her eyes are questioning as she looks you over, giving every appearance of having no idea who are you.”
Llsle smiles at you, clearly not minding your relative informality.”
“You don’t know what to say and before you know it you have agreed find a different conversational partner.” [Grand Duke Woodly]
[Zarad’s letter] “I cannot help it, it as if you have put me under a spell or trapped me in a fever.”
“By now their voices are raised to full on angry shouts and your fears that this will surely escalate to a physical violence is not helped by the sound of a loud shacking crash as something bumps into your door.”
“In any case, that’s enough of that. Isn't it time for you leave for your morning plans?” [Jasper]
“You arrive slightly tardy from the time you were meant to meet, and hasten to apologize, but the smile Lord Clarmont greets you with is almost heart-stoppingly dazzling as he quickly waves aside your apology and invites you sit.”
“I confess, although it has not been that long since our previous conversation, tonight’s dinner and to chance to get to know you better hasn’t been far from my mind since you accepted my invitation.”
“So I brought back this injured bunny and watched over it, checking in it every hour for something like three nights straight…”
“It wasn’t long before our entire manor and yard was completely overrun by little Snowball’s decedents.”
“Ana grins at you cheerfully before spotting something in distance and making a reluctant grumpy face.”
“Still, you are confident that not only do you know understand Princess Ana better, but you are also much better equipped to defend yourself.”
“I hope you have as an enjoyable an evening as I intend to.”
“… I got here just as lady Avalie was bearing her fangs.” [I think it should be “baring.”]
“By now the sun has finished its brilliant decent and you can see the twinkling of many bright stars.”
“Even if you were tempted by such an offer, you knew that being caught in a position so comprising with a man you barely knew…”
“Still we best not change any spontaneous explosions if anyone were to hear us and talk of something else.” [I didn't understand this sentence at all when I played, but now I think maybe “change” should be “chance”? I got kind of lost during the latter end of the conversation with Zarad, but maybe that’s just me.]
“But as quickly as it came, the moment is gone, and he jumps to his feet and he offering you a hand up.”
“Apparently, I’m a laundresses nightmare.” [Hamin]
“But don’t worry, I plan to bring to you all the best spots.” [Hamin]
“… he waves and hurries off, his departure as much as a storm as his arrival.”
So tries so hard to live up to what she thinks she should be…” [Lisle talking about Penelope]
“You just hope that war if begins, it won’t be started by someone stabbing someone sitting next to you at the dinner table…”
“You head the grand library and begin searching for the illusive Duke…” [I think you mean “elusive.”]
“I imaging there are few people such a topic would more relevant to than us delegates at this particular summit.”
“So 7 people have accepted you invitation and will join you for tea.” [The event was actually a musicale.]
“It’s barely a few notes, but already you feel enchanted, like you have brought into another, more magical world.”
“The fact that you have managed to drag the illusive Duke Lyon to a group social event has caused no small amount of gossip.”
“Princess Ana comes up to shaking her head a little.”
“Still, next time let’s sneak off and doing something a little more adventurous, shall we?” [Hamin at a musicale]
“You aren’t about to look at gift of extra time to prepare, or explore in the mouth.”
“After that bald pronouncement, Princess Ana grins wider and dances back to her seat.” [I’m guessing you meant to type “bold,” although I think “bald” works here too!]
“Not one who can discussion fashion with you in the lot.” [Zarad]

I just finished playing through week 2 and it was great! Sincerely, your game has everything I want in a VN. It’s so fun to get to have political, personal, and romantic goals and challenges, and to be a character that is both clever and glamorous. Your perfect setting and characters and writing just make this so great.

I started to feel bad for pointing out errors (especially with such seeming enthusiasm, lol). But I do have another batch in case I haven’t worn out my welcome yet. ;)

(From a playthrough as a sheltered princess):

“But still I can hope that that you will heed what I write, for ensuring this letter reaches you safely…” [Constance’s letter]
“You have only received a handful of letters… but you have read them each so many times you have become faded and worn.”
“Not so much a happy thing as the many other foul fates I have imagined, but I am told not proper to say such things in front of a lady.”
“The arms the hold you trapped hold you solid with pure tensed muscle…”
“My mothers methods and training was considered harsh.”
“If we had not, we wouldn’t not be here at all.”
“…especially when there is no opportunities for advancement based on your performance, intelligence or skill.”
“By happy coincidence I’m always waiting to meet up with someone.” [Not sure if this should be "also" or not]
“It turns into a frustrating night, but at the very least you think you are a little more political savvy for your troubles.” [I'm more used to hearing "politically" in this case, but I don't know for sure]
“I didn’t agree to come with you so I could the work. You are supposed to be the one entertaining me.”
“You blink into the bright morning sun, only to realize that you Earl Emmett is already waiting for you.”
I’m slept well and am doing well, thank you for asking.”
“It’s a morning, therefore it cannot in fair conscious be called ‘good.’” [Maybe it should be "conscience"? Great line, btw]
“If I’m going to fast just go ahead and holler…”
“My sister always says I never remember how much difficult all the layers and skirts…”
“I’ve only ever seen once before, we are very lucky to see this one.”
“He hands offers it to you with a grin…”
But my travelling has resulted in anything it’s a great deal of stories and knowledge…”
“It’s too bad there isn't more cultures that think things like exploring nature is good to get to know one another.”
“It’s strange to you know, that this is the same boy you used to be friends with.”
“Your job was always going to be leave and marry into another, foreign (hopefully royal) house.”
“You were unable to avoid accepting an invitation to late afternoon tea with Princess Jaslen and her favorites among who you are now convinced…” [Maybe it should be "whom," but then again maybe not??]
“There’s plenty of time to worry about such tings later.”
“You have just made your way into the small dining room you have agreed to meet the Prince…”
“Bits of soup and broken porcelain go flying and sop down the wall and lightly splashing the side of your face.”
So she tries so hard to live up to what she thinks she should be…”
“I imagine there are few people such a topic would be relevant to than us delegates at this particular summi.”
“You aren’t the only who is struggling. Prince Jarrod’s expression grows darker and darker…”
“You feel fairy confident in your performance.”
“You decide against pointing out how much tree-climbing is a disapproved of as an activity for proper ladies…”
“Now that ever yone was assembled you were all herded towards the stables.”
“There is a soft knock on the door and Prince Lisle enters his sister room, noticing your with surprise.”

I'm not certain, but before the boat race it seemed like Hamin greeted me twice: the first time in a formal way, and the second time in a friendly way.
“Good morning, Princess Christianne. It’s an excellent day to race.”
“Aha! Glitter! My good luck charm has arrived…”

That's all, folks!
PS - I'm excited for the next matchmaker visit after week 3, when my destiny will be revealed!

So I just tried the game, ...and met with an untimely end.
I'm gonna play some more 'cause I can tell there is still plenty of problems to find. *eager glare*
However, I am going to give you the information I've collected so far.
It turned out to be a good bit long, and since I don't know of this site having a collapsible text command I'm going to attack a txt file in the reply.

Now you don't really have to go and read it, it does contain some comments of my virgin experience... Oh yeah, if other people are curious, spoiler alert.
The rest is pretty much tiny suggestions and some typos here and there.

The only problem that's worth mentioning specifically is that when attempting to turn on full screen mode... well it fails and closes.
I don't think this is a problem with the game specifically, but it might be, because I've never had a renpy game crash in this particular way.
There is one important thing that changed on my system since last time I've played a renpy game so it may be related. My ram card went to Austria, so now I'm down to 450 ram. I doubt it but it's the only thing I can think of.
I did attach the traceback file, but you may want to look for help with that.

Here's the second batch, thankfully I reached the end this time. ...By cheating.
Gonna attach it to the post again, though it's not nearly as big.
And I guess I'm gonna give it a rest, until next version possibly.
... And if you haven't seen my pm yet, do that now! It's important.
And there's that one more error at the end. Attaching the traceback too.

Hi Saltome!

Thanks so much for posting what you found! It really helps :)

As for the fullscreen crash, I'm not sure what the problem could be! I haven't gotten any other reports like that, but I'll look into it. Thanks again~

By the way, while I'm hovering around the thread...
In my reports, I neglected to mention a little exploit.
It was quite convenient for testing purposes, but you may wanna remove it from the final release.
Because of the rollback feature it's easy to find the secret scenes when exploring the castle. You can select to explore wherever, and if nothing interesting happens you roll back, allowing you to check all other locations.
