So I've come to realize that my sprites for Lynarsia seem a bit blurry. I decided to sharpen the color on one of them to see which is better, but I'm not too sure if it's good or not. I'd really like some opinions about which one I should choose. Here's the picture.
On the left is Ruka. She doesn't have her colors changed. I feel like her sprite is a bit blurry. On the left is Cloe. Her sprite's color has been sharpened but it looks strange. What do you guys think?
I don't have a problem with either one, but I think the one on the left (Ruka) is better.

Poorly done hand-drawn art is still poorly done art. Be a Poser (or better yet, use DAZ Studio 3D) - dare to be different.
You should always try to make your assets larger than the size of the game and then downscale them to fit.
That said, I like the right one (sharper) one better.. maybe it stands out more, but it also has that weird sharpened look. It could just be that the lineart of the first one needs to be darker, or maybe the game window just needs to be larger.
The eye goes to the point of highest contrast/sharpest focus, so while I like both, I would personally choose the sharpened features of the sprite on the right and leave the body softer like on the left. That way you won't have a competing focus. Kind of like controlling the place where the viewer looks with a photograph by leaving the background blurry.
I also prefer the one on the right, but at the same time it feels like the one on the left is more... "aproppiate". Perhaps it's a matter of adding some contrast to the character so she stands out more without making her too sharp?
Artist and voice actor, trying to actually write stuff.
I personally prefer the softer Ruka. While I can tell in comparison to Cloe that she is a bit more blurry (not really noticeable unless pointed out), I feel the softness of Ruka's sprite feels more professional looking to me.
For me I like the right one better, coz' it's more sharper, but the left one looks good/felt right too because it's blending in well with the background. Maybe try to less sharpen it a bit? But it depends on what style you prefer for the art, so I think both will work well
Completed: Metropolitan Blues, The Loyal Kinsman, Daemonophilia, The Dreaming, The Thirteenth Year, Adrift, Bionic Heart 2, Secrets of the Wolf, The Photographer
Projects: The Pilgrim's Path, Elspeth's Garden, Secret Adventure Game!
The reason why you think the one on the left is softer is the weight of the lines. The one on the right has darker, harder lines compared to the one on the left. I personally like the one on the right more because it just looks more finished, with the line weight heavier and everything.
I prefer the left sprite; she doesn't so much blurry as just softer lines are used. She feels like she blends into the scene more, like she belongs, whereas the right looks more superimposed onto the scene.
Thank you everyone for your opinions =). Sadly they are about equal, so I don't know what to do DX. I'll toy with the images a bit more and will see if I can get a mixer. Thanks again!
