Brambly Learns CG ~ Feedback please!

#1 Post by Brambly »

So I'm trying to learn to draw game CG art. Most of this is new to me as I'm more of a sketch and colour in person. So any feedback would be most appreciated~

Shading is still incomplete and obviously I haven't started the background yet.

The angle kind of bothers me, looking at it makes me queasy. I feel like the dutch angle should be used sparingly, in cases of tension. After all, it's meant to induce dizziness in the viewer. In this case, it doesn't seem like a shot that merits the use of the dutch angle and would be easier on the eyes if it was in a normal position.

Otherwise, I think the forehead isn't that bad, considering it's a very stylized super-anime sort of art style.

As pointed out, the forehead seems a little too large, even for that style, and I agree that the angle seems extreme: I'd use it, to give some dynamism to the picture, but more mildly.

You said the shading isn't complete, but just in case, remember to have a defined lightsource, I can't find it. Also, take care with the hands, the character's fingers lack a joint, and are too spiky.

I like the composition and the design, though, and the colours are pretty well chosen.
Artist and voice actor, trying to actually write stuff.

Thank you for all the input so far!

Angle: I didn't know that I'll keep that in mind next time. Bit too late to change the angle now.

Forehead: I've lowered the bangs a bit is this better for the long forehead?

Hands: I've redrawn the hands and made them less pointy... But maybe a bit too rounded this time?

Since you've gotten help on the body, just a tip about the head - try to have the eyes look somewhere, like at the lollipop or a passerby or something, rather than stare at something the viewer doesn't know about..
