Me and some of my buddies at PLUS ULTRA put together a very silly "Tinder Simulator" which we are releasing for free on the app store this Halloween. It's a humorous game that recreates the look and feel of Tinder, and is filled with wry observations from online dating, with a monstrous twist.

We built the original game for a Ludum Dare a few months ago. This phone version of the game contains ~38 profiles for various monsters.

I made an update that lets you share screenshots on Twitter, added nice RPG text, some other little upgrades and fixed some rare glitches that could happen if you did weird stuff.

Played this! I've never actually used Tinder before so I had no idea what to do with the swipy thing at first. It was really fun though! It felt like I was actually chatting with a Monster on my phone. XD (My phone's language is in French, and in the message section of the game, the interface was also in French. Cooooool. (Just curious, how did you do that? Were you using the system's actual messaging feature or something? Haha.)

Why did all of them have to block me though? Why... whyyyy? >_<

Yeah, maybe we should have had a tutorial or something. I didn't realize how many people would play this game who had never used Tinder before. That swiping thing isn't intuitive.

For the messaging system, I used "jsqmessages", a library for real messaging. Then I sort of gutted it and made fake monster people that message you using it.

We might make it so that there are more varied things that happen in failed conversations, like YOU block the monster, or other things.

There's a web version that anyone can play. We have to update it to be super nice, though, I'll link it when it's ready. The web version is more like MONSTR: OKCupid For Monsters, hahaha.

Our latest minor update to the UI got rejected because the Apple reviewers finally realized the game is full of sex jokes. xD

I wonder when tindr itself will be rejected - how long it will take for the app store guys to figure out what that service is all about.

I tried Tinder when I was building this app. It's not the worst service in the world, but I don't like how it tries to force everything to be a snap judgement about a person's appearance. I much prefer something like OKCupid where it actually at least makes an attempt to filter users and show you people you might have something in common with.

I'm about to download this on my iPod right now if I have enough space, I unfortunately can't on my phone because I'm still on ios7, so, that blows.

But I love the idea behind this, it's so creative and cute.
