Robin is kicked out of her band by her former lover! She must start a new band to show them up.
Her fellow band-members aren't exactly who she thought she would be working with, but she needs them ... for now anyway!


Customize your own band by choosing your genre, name, and logo. You give your band members tasks to practice in the week, raising 3 stats and generating stress: Music, Writing, and Star Quality. You play gigs to earn Popularity, which is the goal of the game: to get really, really popular.

The game is split into two modes: Story Mode and Open-Ended Mode. During Story Mode, you will have 4 non-adjustable band members. After the story ends, you can form any kind of band you want and recruit who you wish. Story Mode is mostly linear so it can tell a strong story.

Robin Gilly
A not-so-sweet rocker girl. She is kicked out of the band that she helped found. Bitter, she vows to make her own band and surpass them. Things get more complicated when she's forced to travel to her past life to do it.

He knows Robin from “once upon a time” when they were in a band together. After a nasty falling out, they broke their long friendship and went their separate ways. Now Robin needs him more than ever, but can he forgive her? Can she forgive him?

A trust fund baby with an alter ego that fools everyone – but Robin. After an unfortunate event at his family’s hotel, Beau is propelled alongside her into rock stardom, even though it seems like just a fleeting hobby to him.

Robin’s former bandmate and lover. He’s her sworn enemy for life after being kicked out of the band she made him famous for. He’s mastered both the guitar and his vocals, making him a true force to be reckoned with. They have issues, to say the least.

We're baaaaaack.
HappyB will be "participating" in NaNoRenO this year with RockRobin. We're going to make the game public afterwards, likely for open testing. I want to make sure the game is very stable for official release. Either way, everything I have will be available for play in April (ideally April 1st). I want this game done and to stop haunting me! No more disappearing. This is it.

I'm posting this to hold myself accountable and I will be posting all of my progress either here or on my twitter. I love hearing all kinds of feedback, but keep in mind my goal is to simply finish this game right now. I want to learn how to make better games in the future so please tell me your thoughts.

I have a few closed beta testers who have already volunteered awaiting their turn, but if you would like to test during NaNoRenO, you can put your name up if you'd like to be considered. Dropbox is required for closed beta.

The demo below is an updated version made last year. I can't remember what has changed since the first demo, but this one is more accurate to the final product. I can't promise that saves will carry over to the full game.

Those who donated in the past or contributed fanworks will get a special code to unlock some extras: more logos, cheats and - when I finish him - a new recruitable for Open-Ended Mode.

Holy crap, I remember looking at this project when it first got shown here on the forums! Glad to see its still alive and well! Can't wait to play RockRobin when it releases. :) <3

As someone who's done a bit of testing for Break Chance Memento and Destiny Fails Us, I would like to test out this game during NaNoRenO!

I'll play the demo for channel to get some awareness for the game. I'll be sure to share my thoughts on the improved demo and what my viewers thought as well.

I played the demo and I'm so hyped for this!!!! Though have to say, management games ARE NOT my forte, I still loved it!!!

I played the demo and enjoyed so much, Robin is such a cool character to follow (sometimes a little bit too much but absolutely understanding). I really like the "create your own band" aspect too. I created a grunge band called "Kittens from Hell" with the cat logo lol Oh and it really surprised me to see the band forums in public opinion page, i read all the posts and they were so funny (you even put spam posts!!).

Very nice to see someone play it for the first time again - and like it. After 6 years I doubt that anyone even wants to play this anymore.

The gift screen ("Shopping Mall") was gutted and replaced with new code. It works differently now, because testers found the gift system a pain before. Gifts will now appear by random rather than populating into "departments." So sometimes you will get $10 beer next to $25,000 cars.

You can upgrade your shopping experience! Buying the Shopping Guide will to tell you who will accept your gift. The Shopping Assistant will tell you how they will like it: OK vs Like vs Love and ??? for unknown reaction (can be bad or good, just means that we wrote something unique for that item). Finally, the Shopping Cart will show extra slots so you have more to choose from while shopping. These upgrades cost money but are permanent for that playthrough.

I fixed several bugs with the scene gallery ("Memorabilia") and Achievements.

I received art from DahliaWilder for an in-game asset that I don't want to share and spoil, but it's great! :D

There are so many .rpy files for this game. I poked around and found some plugins for jEdit that will help me manage better.

If anyone is interested in writing for the game, I could use the help. There's a few Open Mode characters that are only outlined, about 3 scenes long. I just need someone to power through them. Your contribution would have to be done in about 2-3 weeks so there's time left to code/test it. I'm willing to trade services if you don't mind that trade happening after March.

The characters that I am referring to are: Joel, Natasha, Jammy, Alessandro (needs 1 more scene) and Marcus needs the most love.

It would be really nice to have more voices behind these characters besides just mine so they don't all end up sounding the same. You guys are talented and witty. I've seen it. I'm unfortunately going to be exhausted this month, I can already tell.

Nobody wants to play it!!! Are you kidding me! I have been lurking(not stalking, but glancing every 6 months) to see the status of this game and I am so happy that you are going to be finishing it. I cannot wait to read those 400,000 words...

OMG! OMG! I THOUGHT THIS PROJECT WAS ABANDONED! I am happy! :D Truly happy that you decided to finish Rock Robin. So many interesting characters and the chance to make my own band is unique and awesome! Thank you for not giving up! :)

RR was just too great for it to be abandoned by us. It's been on an on-off schedule for years, but I at least always found myself coming back to it and trying to support Aleema where I could to help her get things done (and to work on Open Mode). And each year Aleema works her butt off and a new big chunk of it gets finished. NaNo has traditionally been the time where we get pumped up about making VNs again so giving us that same hard deadline for RR (which is now VERY close to the finished stage) has been motivating.

It really has been. I've popped into production a little less often than Star, but I'm still more than happy to write for this game. I was so excited when I saw on Aleema's twitter she was finally going to release it! I just hope I don't cringe too much playing it since it's really old writing for me.

The Blue Rose is finished! Emma is finished! Collin is finished! Alessandro is finished!

Having 4 characters be complete is a big deal to me. A month ago, having a functional Open Mode seemed so arduous ... but I actually did a lot of work already and I just needed to connect the pieces. The fact that I see the end of the tunnel is uplifting and motivating.

I've added little arrows to the Modify Band and Band Meeting (only if you have 4 band members that aren't Robin) screens so that you can shuffle the order of the band members around. They represent the same order, so the order they appear on stage is the order they appear in Band Meeting (and other areas). Hopefully this will solve any weird issues with the sprites being awkward together.

I wish the game was widescreen. I'm constantly fighting for screen real estate. After March I'll look into widening the game. The BGs would be the most difficult part to adapt, because there's sooo many.

I've also fixed the music shop so that it works with Open Mode - there's no restrictions on your band composition so you could wind up with 4 guitarists and the shop needed to accommodate for that.

Your band line up now shows when recording a song. Empty space at the bottom because I want to add a mini-game here later, but for now, you can watch your chibis dance around while you wait.

I worked on making things easier to understand. Since a character's story unlocks in all kinds of ways - sometimes they're timed, based on relationship score, sometimes they're triggered by going into the band meeting screen, sometimes you must hang out with them on the weekend - so knowing how little things affected your band is important. For instance, raising/lowering of relationship points was invisible - but the cons outweighed any pro for that. So a relationship bar appears whenever there's a point change.
