Hmm, the shading on the hair is not quite there for me yet. Since her hair has a smooth texture, I would expect it to have sharper highlights, especially where the light hits the crown of her head and on her waves. Hair has physical volume, so you want to make sure you're using your light and shadow to really "sculpt" it. Here's a few tutorials I pulled up on DeviantArt to show what I mean...

http://nyuhatter.deviantart.com/art/Ani ... -215806297

Looking good so far though! :)

All I've been doing is sketches what am I doing o(--(

Totally in love with the brush, though. Individual lines don't look like pencil but I feel like when used in thick blocks it imitates my general pencil shading look quite well, and has a homey feel to it. The illusion is quickly broken by the light parts, though, so. (And, well. The very controlled look of the brush in general, but who's really expecting much from adding a paper texture to a brush tbh)

@Aviala

@Ulalaria

Thank you so much for taking the time to give me such comprehensive and detailed feedback. I really appreciate it and will take each of your points into account! ^^ Will definitely work on shadows, shading and contrasts!
I know there's a lot to work on, but baby steps, baby steps.
Also, thank you for the tutorial links. The one with the blue hair is so perf! T^T
Thanks again.

Hello, everyone! I stumbled across this thread only recently, so I thought I would throw my hat into the ring, so to speak.

Image

What do you think of it? I've been using it as a sort of promo art for my game, but I'm not sure what kind of impression it's giving you. I have a friend who thinks I'm notorious for making misleading art because apparently, my writer's brain thinks along a different wavelength from my artistic one.

So, if you have the time, please do let me know what you honestly think. :)

(On a side note, it might interest you to know that in my first draft of this, I put the blood higher up on her dress and my friend was like, "It looks like she just had her period!" Hence, the moved blood prints. But yes, if my picture's making you think of anything strange like that, please do tell me. I'm also not sure if the snow looks enough like snow? Did you even recognize it as a blizzard and not some strange papier-mâché or what have you?)

Dreamgazer, the snow looks fine! Maybe it could go over the characters a bit more, because now it looks like there's a force field around them or something like that, but it's clearly recognizable as a blizzard.

Here's my entry for Voltage's contest; the cg was super rushed, because I mistakenly thought the contest would end a day sooner than it actually did, but I'm still really fond of the girl's portrait. I'll make sure to start way earlier this year, though, I drew all of these basically in one sitting.

Ahhh ok so I've been planning to work on something short during my holidays a long time ago and I had an early start with the main character here, Tei. But a lot of things are happening with a loss of a family member and extra classes and I'm just constantly tired and drained, so I haven't been able to work at all aiyaa

Hopefully everyone's doing a lot better!

nero279, this is so nice of you to say! Thank you! :)

This sprite set is looking really good! The coloring is really soft and pleasant to look at.

Phew! That's a relief. And you're right, it does look like a force field's around them! Which is interesting but definitely not my intended effect. Good job on your contest entry, by the way! You did this all in one sitting? You definitely have talent. These look like pictures that could come out of a comic book.

And oh, wow, those sprites look amazing, nero279. (Also, you have my condolences! I hope things are starting to look up for you now.)

Here's one of the CGs I've been working on for my game. What do you all think?

@ Dreamgazer: I appreciate that, thank you very much! I love your CG as well! I'm always a sucker for those kinds of sorta weird dramatic angles in CGs ahak And his hair and feathers! So fabulous!

And I made new thingies again!

BG's definitely not made by me! This is an in-game screencap, and the GUI actually works! Wow!!!

I uh..... I'm trying as best as I can to make my own GUI, it's an official start for me???? I really want to finish my first game by myself without having to depend so much on other people so I'm (very) slowly working on everything, hopefully I can improve and learn a lot!

@Ark: Your idea of how it works is just about right. I do colorization and shading in a single step though. Colorize layers aren't intuitive at all, and the results you get from them always look a little artificial. Touching up watercolors with multiply and addition layers works as well, but this method is definitely much more forgiving.
@Dreamgazer: I'm honestly kind of mystified by the fact that your color choices don't look bad, eventhough you have those crazy saturation levels going on everywhere. You obviously know something that I don't, so just keep doing what you're doing.

Today I made a Maria portrait. (Don't worry, it isn't a spoiler. Anything you might think you can deduce from this would most likely be completely off the mark... plus, I'm still in the middle of reading Umineko, so I don't know who the real Beatrice is either.) Critique would be appreciated.

nero297, the GUI is looking pretty cute so far! Simple and legible.
Dreamgazer, I think it's looking very solid!

A Flight Rising dragon gijinka. I like dropping by the free gijinka thread there, they always make for great warmups, and people tend to be super jazzed about my gifts. :')

I've spent a good part of my hiatus working on illustrations in a more pictoric and "card-game like" way.

This is the first one I made:

I also made a video, even though it's only a step by step made with pictures.

Artist and voice actor, trying to actually write stuff.
