What's your favorite font?
I know that sometimes your font is going to be dictated by the type of story you're writing about, but I've been having a hard time trying to find a font that I'm happy with. Can anyone give some recommendations? I'm trying to find something that isn't too 'informal'(?), but doesn't look extremely uniform if that makes any sense.

Re: What's your favorite font?
Usually I grab my fonts from websites. this one has unique yet practical fonts;
http://www.kimberlygeswein.com/
this one has a large variety, use the tags to get precise results
http://www.1001fonts.com/
if you're looking for a specific 'theme' to your font then just google it. for example 'futuristic fonts' could get you quite a few relevant results.
P.S; for some of these you need to purchase a license for commercial use

Re: What's your favorite font?
^ I use 1001fonts too, haha, mostly for documents and other projects.
Anyway, I don't have a 'favorite' font, per se, but right now I've been using the font "Avenir" a lot. =) In general, you can use any sans-serif font, as I think they are a whole lot easier on the eyes than your average serif. Most of the visual novels I play use sans-serif too, if I'm not mistaken. Serif can make it harder to read the text, especially if the GUI is dark or especially fancy.

Google Fonts has all free fonts for commercial use.
Ive used Molengo from there for my vn's. I like the font a lot, the only problem with it is that it's lacking Italic and bold versions.

I'm a huge fan of Myriad, and use it as the standard for almost everything. It is simple, easy to read, and versatile.
When I need a more obscure/interesting font, I usually hit up DaFont, which allows you to sort by free/commercial use fonts, and browse the perfect font for your project.
Good luck!

I use Century Gothic for basically everything because it's so simple but still cute and it's just easy on (at least mine) your eyes.

I prefer to use Quicksand. It's wonderful and open.

Noto Sans for languages and translations. Slightly similar to DejaVu Sans with less bulk and further character support.

Also use 1001fonts~ My favorite more 'standard' font, though, is probably Bookman Antique. It's simple, easy to read, and has an elegant feel.

Re: What's your favorite font?
I use Dafont (and checking only the 100% free or public domain fonts) and am currently using Linux Libertine G for Kinghearth. It's a really nice font that actually got me to READ what I wrote when I actually check them on launch project :'D
A lot of the font sites do allow you to sort by category, though. It can be hard to look for a good one for the dialogue and such, but give it a try anyway?

Re: What's your favorite font?
It's hard to say. For me, it all depends on the overall project design. Personally, I like Phenomena. But with that being said, if you are looking for a font for your game you need to read the font license that comes with it and make sure that you can use/port it with you game. This is important regardless of if you are making the game free to play or for commercial.
I have done research on the subject and have written an article about what to look for in font licenses on my website. http://biancakhidime.com/2016/07/16/com ... font-game/ This article explains what Commercial-free really means for fonts, their usage and useful info on places to look for fonts to use. A lot of people have the wrong assumption that because it says "commercial-free" they can use fonts (both personal and commercial) for their projects however they see fit. Even I thought this at first. But believe me, you can get into some really sticky situations if you're not careful and I don't want this to happen to anyone.
