Hello,
I am new to Ren'py and recently started setting up my development environment in order to work on a VN project with another person. As I was implementing the git repository and the initial files, I was wondering if the common.rpym file, located in game/tl/None, is supposed to be pushed to the git repo or not.
I picked up the .gitignore list available here, and while it includes the common.rpymc file located in the same folder, it does not cover common.rpym.
Should I add common.rpym to my .gitignore?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Should "common.rpym" be added to my .gitignore file?
common.rpym contains text which is used by confirmation dialogs, string formatting functions and such. Though the game would function if you remove it, you will lose ability to edit and distibute changes to those lines, so I would advise against ignoring it. It is also important that you keep it, if you develop a game in another language, otherwise some parts of the game will be in english.

Oh, I see! There is no real reason to ignore this file, then.
Thanks for the answer!

Re: [Solved]Should "common.rpym" be added to my .gitignore f
That .gitignore is probably overkill for project use. Here's what I'd use for a simple project:
Note that even though you probably don't want to check in .rpyc/.rpymc files, they're important and need to be shipped with the game. (They're used to make sure saves work even if the game changes.)
Code: Select all
*.rpyc
*.rpymc
game/cache/
game/saves/
log.txt
traceback.txt
errors.txt
