So I was making a VN and I was just wondering, how many emotions/outfits/poses would be the normal or optimal amount for such a game,
Just wondering?

That is wholly dependent on how long the game is, the setting and your own creativity. There is no "normal" amount, you can make a popular game with just one character and a few emotions.

I was just asking the amount to make the emotions seem more lifelike, with stuff such as variations in the emotions, or just a list of emotions that I'd have to draw for.

Re: How many graphic assets would be required?
Depends more on the story, as Sundownkid said. I myself made enough expression parts to make a few hundred combinations with Richard (my avatar) alone, however many people won't need half that amount. Usually the amount can be minimised to 4-8 expressions per character and still be sufficient for the average story, see the Creative Common section for which ones these would be, but you can always choose to add more depending on your story events. Some stories don't contain crying and others can use it. And I personally liked the freedom to make my characters look down or sideways, but many won't need that.
So you, being the one knowing the story, would know best what you need.

The surest way to determine exactly what you need is to parse through your script and use it to build your asset lists.

Re: How many graphic assets would be required?
I've pretty much decided that there is about 12-15 poses and emotions per character + CG,
Thanks for all of the advice.
