Ren'py Won't Launch: HALP

#1 Post by RosyInk27 »

If you look at my profile, it's obvious that I've spent quite some time away from Renpy/visual novels. Recently, I've been learning more coding in Python and thought I could give my ideas another go, but once I downloaded Renpy, my Mac OS put up the usual unidentified developer warning and (even after saying yes) refused to open it.

I've been tearing my hair out all night over this! I've updated my computer, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Ren'py four times, I've enabled apps from anywhere in Gatekeeper, I've even used the ill advised trick of straight up disabling Gatekeeper from Terminal with that old sudo spctl --master-disable trick. Nothing works.

If anyone else has run into this problem, p l e a s e comment on this topic. It doesn't matter if you haven't found a way around it yet, I just want to make sure that I'm not going crazy!

Have you tried, not double clicking on the app, but right-clicking and then choosing "Open"?
A Close Shave:
*Last Thing Done (Aug 17): Finished coding emotions and camera for 4/10 main labels.
*Currently Doing: Coding of emotions and camera for the labels--On 5/10
*First Next thing to do: Code in all CG and special animation stuff
*Next Next thing to do: Set up film animation
*Other Thing to Do: Do SFX and Score (maybe think about eye blinks?)

Sure did. Tried from Finder, put the icon for renpy on the dock then tried it THERE, it just doesn't work.

What's exponentially frustrating is that it's only the renpy app. Every other app seems to do fine except for the one I actually need now.

Could you try grabbing the .dmg file from renpy.org? It looks like there might be a problem with the .zip file, if that's what you unpacked. I'll investigate further sometime tomorrow.

Still doesn't work. Maybe I'm doing something wrong with the application?

I don't know. When you spctl --assess -v renpy.app , what does it say? How about when you run renpy.sh from the command line?

1) renpy.app: invalid API object reference
2) the file pops up in the dock, then vanishes and doesn't pop up. the following text appears in Terminal

LSOpenURLsWithRole() failed for the application /Applications/renpy.app with error -10810.

After going through the mac os x forums, I found that a good way to figure out what's wrong is to safe restart -- I'll report back with what I find shortly.

Shortly is... relative.

False alarm y'all. The issue is not with the software itself but with my computer.
