Looking for feedback on a character sketch [honest critique]

#1 Post by Sonomi »

Hello everyone! I would really appreciate any pointers on how to improve my artwork. There isn't any color because I am absolutely terrible at coloring anything.

Does this look okay to you? If not, which areas need more work?

The guy looks pretty good actually, the girl not as much. Her chest is really off and awkward. Her shoulders seem uneven, and her boob shouldn't be over her arm depending on the pose you're going for. (it's not a natural comfortable pose - as a busty girl myself you can trust me on that lol) her chest is also really big for her frame. Other than that her hair looks really flat compared to the guys - like it's way heavier if that makes sense?

try using a pose reference like # 10 or 12

I'm a terrible artist, but I hope that helped! The guy really does look well done, i like his design.

@Scribbles

As a woman, I'm embarrassed to say I struggle drawing females more often than not. It did not strike me to just look in a mirror. lol For what it's worth, I thoroughly enjoyed the way you worded that.

A hundred thank yous for the honest feedback! I'm going to practice improving the points you mentioned, for sure. I came across one of the anatomy references already, but the learn manga one is something I haven't seen before. Well. I clearly didn't use the one I had while drawing this...whoops.

Oh, and thanks for the compliments on the guy! I really like that sort of hairstyle and this is the first time I've attempted drawing it on someone. Super happy that much turned out okay.

.
I think it's common for artists to tend to be better at one gender than the other. They have different lines and curves and stuff lol

I'm glad I didn't come off as too critical, I was trying to be helpful promise

Just an update: Here is another sketch that I wanted to share but didn't want to make a new thread for. I'm trying to find myself my art style so I've made a few changes to the way I draw certain things. If you have a moment, I'd love to hear your opinions!

I have still not learned how to color...it's going to happen eventually.
