Recruiting an artist for paid work on our otome game
My two sisters and I are working on an otome game together. I'm a professional developer, my younger sister is a musician, and the youngest is a writer/developer. We've got a game built, script and dialogue trees, and background music and sound effects in the bag.
As should be evident from our skills list, we are not artists. We've been producing horrendous stand-in art, but we're about 60% of the way through our script and we'd like to be able to add art to our demo.
Our setting is future/space. There are a few planetside bits but its mostly spaceships.
At present we only have a 3k USD budget for art. To be frank, I'm not sure how far that will get us. We need everything. CGs, Character Art, Backgrounds, the works. We're having a blast making this, but we'd like to add some polish.
Has anyone been through the process and have any good pointers or links to pointers on hiring and vetting artists? Does anyone have any suggestions for any artists to approach, or have any interest in doing art for a project like this?

You could try perusing the "I'm an artist" recruitment thread, and if you find a style you like, then see if another commissioner may have left a favourable comment recommending the artist's work.

Moved to a more appropriate forum.
Also, if you want to get artists interested in your project, maybe share a few more details on what the project is actually about in terms of plot?

Re: Recruiting an artist for paid work on our otome game
I wonder if the OP is looking for artists or just ask for some advice about recruiting artists?? Because they wrote this :
The most important part, I say, is to finish the script. Or at least part of it, but you have to make sure you know exactly how many character sprites (including their expression/hand gesture/pose/outfit alternative) you will need for your game. Same with background and CG. If they have variations (like day-night version for background, or different expressions on some cg), or you plan to add them, be sure to put them in your asset list.
After you know the number, you can start looking for artists and counting the price. Lemmasoft has 'I'm an Artist' section where artist post the services they offer along with the price. You can start there, or you can also edit your post (since it's already been moved to recruitment thread) with more information on how many art you need and other necessary information (just check the other post for some examples) and people will start applying (like they already did).
Anyway, I'm available if you're looking for cg and/or sprite artist =DD but I'll also share some advice if you're still unsure on how to recruit an artist.Has anyone been through the process and have any good pointers or links to pointers on hiring and vetting artists? Does anyone have any suggestions for any artists to approach, or have any interest in doing art for a project like this?

Re: Recruiting an artist for paid work on our otome game
Hello!
I am interested in working with you. I love sci-fi and think the world needs more sci-fi themed visual novels. Here you can have a look at my art slyle http://anastasiamorning.deviantart.com/gallery/
I am mostly character artist so I am mostly interested in sprite and/or character concept artist position. Maybe CGs too but I'm not so sure about the backgrounds.
I have very negotiable prices.
If you're interested please PM me or email me at artisticanastasia@gmail.com

Re: Recruiting an artist for paid work on our otome game
I'm pretty new to drawing sprites for games, but I have a decent history of experience. I am in the process of drawing up a male sprite as i type this. The lining is almost done, just finishing up some final tidbits then i can at least post the line art.
My prices are here:
viewtopic.php?f=62&t=44150
I am open to the idea of negotiating prices consdiering we are all broke in this indie world lol
Here is my Deviantart: http://kainico.deviantart.com/
If my art is something you like enough to potentially have in your game let me know
email me at KainicoContact@gmail.com
best wishes!
