Post your music

I didn't see topic about it, so why not. I'll get the festivities going with a song I did just yesterday.

This song is for a rocket flying into space in a game intro and start credits with it.

Composers often post their music in the Recruitment & Services Offered section.

I've been to many forums and there's often also post your music section where composers can share pieces they've worked on and stuff they want to share with other users, it's quite same as post your picture or post your art topics. It's just a way of having a friendly discussion with like minded people.

Case in point, I am not recruiting, I'm not offering services. I just did it for fun.

I'm just starting out composing music and I'm really interested in making music for visual novels. I just don't know where to start. I'd like peoples opinions on what I've written so far. I feel like I'm not getting constructive criticism from my friends. https://soundcloud.com/user-249701118

DISCLAIMER : I'm not a musician by any stretch of the imagination. I'm likely to hit a single key with Digital Native Dance and call it my soundtrack

Having said that : I like your compositions. I'll take one to focus on. I like the ragtimy feel of "Piano2" but the reverb of the whole song (and several others too) puts it too much in the foreground to my taste for VN background music.

I think it's important to realize that people are reading a story while listening to this. There's no telling where exactly they are in the story. There are two moments in "Piano2" that could break their immersion. The first moment is when the left hand starts an arpeggio. It's perfectly fine to change into that when the scene of the story changes but not in the midst of a scene. The second moment is around 1:07, the couple of high notes that are struck. Imagine reading a story with the music going on in the background and suddenly those high notes are struck, it draws the attention to the music (and away from the story).

Here is a link to the background music of "Syrup and the Ultimate Sweet". I like this as an example for good VN music. It's very restrained, non-obtrusive and highly "loopable" (having no clear beginning or end).

On an unrelated note : I like the idea of this thread as the musical counterpart of "Show your art". What I miss on this forum is the [audio] element. The phpBB forum software does have that thing but it has to be installed and switched on. It gives posters the possibility to have a "play audio control" in their posts.

Fuseblower, I really appreciate you getting back to me and giving me some good criticism. II listened to the link you posted, and I believe I have a clear idea of what I should do now.

Here's something I've been working on backburner for sometime, it's a song in style of the 80's early 90's pop music.

My project is called Sweet Boy. I specialize in Persona/SMT inspired electronic music, but I'm also capable of plenty of different genres on request and I'm also a singer!

Example of my electronic music:

Example of my more traditional VN music:

https://soundcloud.com/thesweetestofboy ... g-serenade

Example of my singing:

I'm new to actually putting my music out there, so if you guys have any tips for finding projects, let me know!

This is a good thread. Let's keep it rolling. I may be a little bias, but this subforum could always use more love.

Hmm, never thought I'd run into another death metal fan on here. Although I do prefer more tech death myself. Nonetheless you've got some tasty thrashy death guitar riffs right there.

I am also a huge electronica fan and I'm loving that Nu-disco vibe on dungeon dweller. Nice Work.

I've got a few tracks brewing. Unfortunately, my perfectionism combined with my relative inexperience in music production means that I'm pretty slow at creating stuff I'm proud of, but whatever.

Boy, I know that feeling. I went through it myself, but I like what you have so far. It sounds solid.

I did this track for this year's NanoReno, which in my case happened to be a horror one. It's not perfect, and it could use some tweaks, but considering it was done in a span of 3 days and for fun, I'm ok with it. Plus you don't often hear metal tinged drums, or enough rock bass or guitars in VN music so this was a good opportunity to implement those. 8)

Sounds nice - dark and mysterious. I'm sure it fits well in VN theme.

I like both themes. The only difficulty to my ears is that it sounds a little bit like a midi instruments.

Interesting, since most of the sounds are either synthesized or samples. Unless you're referring to the fact that they're sequenced rather than performed/recorded. I may need to do some tweaking with velocity values to get things to sound a little more natural, but that's a deep rabbit hole.
