Unable to start the Gradle daemon process in 7.1.0

#1 Post by JackDoe »

Hello. I tried new prerelease 7.1.0. version to build apk files and got this error:

Code: Select all

Creating assets directory.

Creating expansion file.

Packaging internal data.

I'm using Gradle to build the package.
Starting a Gradle Daemon (subsequent builds will be faster)

FAILURE: Build failed with an exception.

* What went wrong:
Unable to start the daemon process.
This problem might be caused by incorrect configuration of the daemon.
For example, an unrecognized jvm option is used.
Please refer to the user guide chapter on the daemon at https://docs.gradle.org/4.4/userguide/gradle_daemon.html
Please read the following process output to find out more:
-----------------------
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for 1572864KB object heap

* Try:
Run with --stacktrace option to get the stack trace. Run with --info or --debug option to get more log output. Run with --scan to get full insights.

* Get more help at https://help.gradle.org

The build seems to have failed.

The error message seems to indicate you are low on either Ram or storage?

I've had no troubles using the latest update myself.

Okay, just got the error myself.
After a few minutes of digging, it appears to be a similar issue as ANT had (previous Android build library).

I haven't yet figured out what causes it.

Ant issue was fixed with SDK installation.
Still got error with Gradle.

Fixed this issue by deleting both the rapt folder in the renpy folder and .gradle folder in C:\Users\<username\. I also did a reboot for safe measure before reinstalling Android SDK etc., but I doubt that's really needed.

Ah, this helps track it down a bit.
I suspect you don't need to delete the whole RAPT folder, rather, just certain contents of the bin folder.

Doesn't work on my side. Still getting an error.

I had the same error so I closed down a bunch of programs and tried again and that solved it for me, I saw that error has also been seen in Unity and some other similar programs, it doesn’t seem to be about your total memory, but perhaps memory allocated to java or something like that. There also seems to be a way of changing the memory allocated to java if you search for the error.

After that I got another error, however, and I had to change from debug to release.

What is the size of your game? Mine is around 250 Mb. It could be a cause of the problem. Probably.

That particular apk came out just over 30 megabytes, so considerably smaller. but regardless, I believe it was the same figure that I got in the error, this memory issue might be the process and not the game. Id try to close some programs (perhaps something else using the ram allocated to hava?) and if that doesn’t work let me know, ill see if I can find the pages I was looking at earlier.

Here is one of the links I mentioned:
https://forum.unity.com/threads/could-n ... ved.88119/

not sure if this is the same thing or not, but seems like a similar problem.
I would see about closing any software running in the background though. Even though I have 32GB of RAM I still had this issue and closing programs seemed to help.

I only have 8Gb of RAM. There was no problem with Ant to build previous APK files.

Hello :3
I got the same problem yesterday while trying to build a test apk and I tried doing what you guys did above but it didn't help.

I got closer to solving the issue by doing this:
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/250 ... tializatio
1.Open the projects gradle.properties file in android studio

2.Added this line at end of file org.gradle.jvmargs=-Xmx1024m & Save the file

3.Close & reopen the project

Because some of you probably don't use android studio - the "gradle.properties" can be created in «USER_HOME»/.gradle/gradle.properties, where «USER_HOME» is your home directory.
depending on your platform:

C:\Users\<username> (Windows Vista & 7+)

/Users/<username> (macOS)

/home/<username> (Linux)

If that file doesn’t exist, just create it using a text editor.
Source: https://docs.gradle.org/4.4/userguide/g ... aemon.html
....
But that didn't solve it for me. For some it might work.
What I did was then (Note, I'm using Windows 10):
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/303 ... -on-device

Go to Start->Control Panel->System->Advanced(tab)->Environment Variables->System Variables->New:

Variable name: _JAVA_OPTIONS

Variable value: -Xmx512M
Boom!

I hope this helped anyone. I'm absolutely no techy, but it seemed to have something to do with the memory that is allocated to Java. :'3
