Background Artist needed for otome game

#1 Post by Duou »

Hmm... I'm not sure how to start considering this is my first ever post on this forum...

Ok, we, a two-person doujin line circle, are making a Prince of Tennis doujin game aimed at girls (not BL). Currently, I have two 'gettable' boys (Shishido and Ootori) but I'm wondering whether I should add more doubles pairs from other schools.

In any case, I (the artist) do crap backgrounds. Seriously. I don't want to use photos either... unless I have no choice, I guess.

Supposedly a beach.

Supposedly a room. Bed is kindergarten-sized.

Yeah... I don't really have high expectations for the backgrounding (I need a corridor-ish hallway and the beach... and the room), just as long as they look better than mine. You also don't need to know Prince of Tennis. YAY!

And for the record, here are Shishido and Ootori:

Artist now regrets not using pen tool. TT_TT

EDIT: Oh noez. The screenies are too darn big! Sorry people...

THAT BEACH WAS BEAUTIFUL! ^__^

Thanks! Your name will be added in the credits. : D

Backgrounds needed:

1. Beach (day, sunset, night)
2. Room with a bed (light, dark)
3. Corridor-ish hallway (light, dark)
4. Boat deck [I may or may not use this...] (sunset)

THANKS!

Take your time. :)

I don't need them too urgently, currently I'm using placeholders.

EDIT: Sorry... The size I need is 800px by 600px. :D

I hate to say this, but I find the newer background art hard to look at for long periods of time. It's overly complex, and has these weird repetitive textures in it, while at the same time failing to trigger the part of my brain that makes something a landscape rather than random shapes.

Not being able to look at a picture is a problem in a VN, where a person can be expected to look at the same background for relatively long periods of time.

Hmm... I think metalica's backgrounds would work better for my characters... Sorry, zephiel, PyTom did have a point there... ^_^;;

I'm still open for background artists...

Well I won't be having time to make the backgrounds, I have a personal project of mine and bsides this style of vn are not my thing  . Just thought trying to make a beach in photoshop was going to be fun, besides I made you the night version, as for reflection of the moon in the water is as good as i could get it which is not much. Cheers

zephiel don't get discouraged, you're probably a much better artist than i am. But i didn't draw anything here either, I just got photoshop on my side  . I suggest you try it, its an amazing program and there are literally thousands of tutorials to do cool stuff. I used the water technique from a tutorial i saw, and used the lightning effect technique from a forest i did from an amazing tutorial 8), the sand I did myself . Here's the forest result, its amazing if you think it was made by a newb like me(honestly i don't even know what some buttons are used for yet). Cheers

well I doubt is better than photoshop since photoshop is the market leader. Its a paid program, my brother says he paid over 200 bucks to upgrade or something. I dunno but i think he's crazy since i looked for photoshop in online shops(similar to ebay) here in argentina and they are around 45 to 55 bucks. Still photoshop comes with a 30 day trial, so its worth a try.

If you don't want to spend my brother says you could try gimp(freeware), though i haven't tried that one myself
