Ochiba - Falling Leaves (Slice of Life Visual Novel) Official Kickstarter launch!

#1 Post by Nicckonator »

Ochiba.

A heartbreaking, makes-you-think, slice of life visual novel that is experienced through the First-Person perspective of it's main character: 'Kai', also known as you!

As inspired by the likes of Clannad and Katawa Shoujo, to be featured in 1920x1080 HD.

Prepare to be drawn into an immersive story that makes you care about and feel for every character you encounter.

To be released on Steam, with optional physical copies available. (And possibly Android release in the future.)

Complete info about the game including our official demo can be found on the Kickstarter page itself!
Please feel free to check it out, and do consider supporting us, as every backing will be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone.

Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Nick from NK Productions.

And 'Ochiba - Falling Leaves' The Visual Novel, is the project I and other members of the team have been working on for about a year now.

And we are pleased to announce that our official Kickstarter campaign has just been launched!

As such we are trying to get the word out there, and gather interest for this wonderful dream of a game, that we want to turn into reality.

Since this game is so focused on player-character connection, we feel it's of the utmost importance that our players/backers/supporters are able to give feedback on this project, after all... it's you who's going to experience it!

The outcome of each playthrough is diverse in its own way and heavily influenced by player choice which we feel is very important to have in a game...
Include as many choices / alternate paths / endings as you can handle. Consider how many of the choices will help make your story more interactive and compelling. Be sure to ask other people for comments and criticism.
...he interacts with his classmates Umi, Meiko, Nami, Yumi, and Haruna...
Three of the heroines have similar names. Unless a major aspect of the story is the protagonist confusing one person for another, this could be a problem. If it's not too late, think about changing Umi, Nami, or Yumi's name.
...from time to time [he] has encounters with the antagonist Shinjiro...
If your protagonist has a rival or an enemy, that could add some conflict. Think about what the character will contribute to the story. Consider what will make Shinjiro memorable and believable.
Apart from the branching with the potential love interests a main part of the plot will be the big Sakura Tree in the middle of town/city, a tree which has been there ever since, some say it has been there since before mankind, it is revered by most as an ancient part of nature, a protector of the town.
If you haven't already done so, search online for "cherry blossom tree folklore" and similar terms. Then think about reading CLAMP's series Tokyo Babylon.

Somewhat off-topic: if Ochiba took place around Amsterdam, that would be a point of difference. Or if it took place in western Europe, but in the recent past / near future. That said, I don't think that the setting of your VN can be changed at this point...

Hello Gekigan and thank you for your constructive critisism! It is most welcome.

The off-topic remark is actually the most interesting one, it's actually set in a small if fictional city in Japan itself, though no specification as to date/year etc.
As for the similarity in names, two of the three are identical twins, and with the twins there will definitely be humoristic confusion from the main characters perspective.

I've taken your tips under the loop and adjusted accordingly :D

Wishing you a pleasant day,
Nick from NK Productions.
